Gomer or Goober - who do you like better?

This topic was touched on a bit in an earlier post about Goober. Who likes whom better...and Why?
I prefer Goober. Gomer was a bit too out-of-control stupid, and his twangy accent was hard to hear for more than a few seconds at a time. Goober had a sensitive, soft side to him under that simple exterior that his cousin was lacking.

I prefer Goober as well. Although Gomer was in some great episodes his character was a little overwhelming. I can think of more of my favorite episodes with Goober (Three Wishes For Opie, The Case of the Punch in the Nose, Goober Takes a Car Apart) than I can with Gomer.

Personally i like Gomer. I thought he was funny. I posted this topic a while back, but i decided to delete it because i was'nt getting any responses.

In TAGS, I think I liked Goober better, although Gomer was lovable in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.. I've heard that George Lindsay was actually the first choice to play Gomer, until Andy Griffith found Jim Nabors.

They both were pretty funny but i would have to choose Gomer by a hair.

Not only Gomer was funnier, he was much more likable than Goober. Gomer was sort of dimwitted but smart enough to be likable and he was pretty much one of few characters that could hold up an episode besides Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, and Opie really. Goober was a flat out straight idiot at times and Howard Lindsay did try hard, but couldn't save the character.
Let me put this way, who got his own show?

Fran Drescher got her own show, so natural disasters do happen!

What does Fran Drescher have to do with anything. This show is for The Andy Griffith Show. Fran Drescher was in The Nanny.

Wheelrchair, perhaps you didn't read the context of what I was replying to in that someone who gets his or her own show is not necessarily an indication of the greatness of the character. The Nanny was a parallel example to Gomer Pyle.

At first I did not like Goober but as he grew he became more lileable. I also started likeing Gomer more as he grew once he left Mayberry. I just wonder if they would have allowed Gomer to grow as much if he had stay. There is a post talking about how much Andy changed over the years and he did change a lot but nothing compare to the change Goober made.
