I truely do believe that if Don Knotts hadn't been forced to leave the show, causing the break-up of Barney and Thelma Lou, I believe they would have married before the show's end.
I sometimes wonder what Barney and Thelma Lou's children would have been like. I've imagined them having a daughter named Heather, who's just about the oppiosite of her father in many ways. She's a real dare devil, not very lady like, very out-going, hyperactive ADD like, sort of has a class clown like personitilty, is quite sarcatsitic, very witty, and can be somewhat abnoxious. She's also smart, has alot more common sense then her father and dosen't fall for tricks like Andy's easily. She also has a big heart and is fiercely loyal to her friends, and actually takes matters quite serisouly, even though she dosen't show it in public.
Heather also tends to take herself to seriously, struggles with self-confedence,tries to take on more responsiblitly them she can handle, takes on too much guilt, and can be quite depressed, although she puts up a good front and worry free front. She's also quite friendly, really loves the outdoors and loves to take on the most extreme chanllenges, loves race car driving, gymnatics, hockey, swimming and water sports, and wild life (she even loves and is skilled at handling snakes, alligators, and spiders, much to her parents dismay). She also perfers action-adventure thriller movies and hates sappy romantic films. She loves both rock and county music and plays drums and guitar. She also like hip-hop and is actually a talented rapper, even though it strans her voice. Her favorite food is peanut-butter, her least favorite is brussell sprouts.
She's also a diebetic and must take insulin shots. She has no talent for cooking or any of the tradional domestic things, though she does for yard work and is good quite a handy woman.
Heather is mediocure when it comes to English and math, but is above average in science and is brillent in history and world cultures. She's a history freak, world cultures freak, and a wild life freak. She also loves dogs and it took her many years to convicence her mother to let her have a dog.
And while Heather usually perfers pants and t-shirts and loves to get dirty, she does love to dress up sometimes and dosen't mind wearing a dress to church, only she'll tend to dash off and start playing ball or going off on adventure while still in her good clothes, ticking both of her parents off.
Finally, Heather has a crush on Opie and really likes Andy's and Helen's son Andy Jr, who later becomes her boyfriend, even though they are polar oppisites. Andy Jr. is calm, stright forward, organized, loves to play the piano and write stories for his school newspaper, and not much of an adventurer or thrill seeker. However, he can bring out the lady in Heather.
Both of her parents, espcially Barnery, often wishes Heather would act more like a girl. Barney dosen't think it's approate for a girl to wear jeans and pants most of the time nor for a girl to choose masculine activites over femine. Deep down, however, Barney truely loves his daughter for the way she is and wouldn't change her, even though her dosen't understand her. Heather says the same thing about her Dad.
