Nothing was ever mentioned about her except than she died.

Well it makes me happier that she died rather than them getting divorced.

Divorce was kind of taboo back in the sixties. I would of liked for them to of told us a little more about her. Especially to Opie. It always seemed odd that Andy would never talk to Opie about his Ma.

There was a fan fiction story by Joe Gritton(on Mayberry.Com) called "The Favorite Story Never Told" that pretty much answered the questions about Andy's wife/Opie's mother. Hope that I've helped.

If Aunt Bee poisoned Andy's wife, it wasn't on purpose. Maybe she ate one of Aunt Bee's pickles.

All morbid humor aside, Aunt Bee didn't arrive until years after Andy's wife died.

I always wondered what happened to Andy's wife. No one in Mayberry ever mentions her demise. It's a mystery, to be sure.

My daddy always told me Opie's ma, Ladybird, ran off with some high-falutin' Texas politician. Don't know whatever became of her, but it would explain why Andy always relished showing up a stuffed-shirt politician.

Yeah, it is odd that her name never came up between Opie and Andy, or Aunt Bee and Andy, or even Andy and any of his dates. I did see the scene in which Barney references standing in at Andy's wedding, but it was a brief, ambiguous mention. They could have made a touching, memorable scene out of Andy reminiscing about her with someone.

Lol! While clever to remember the awful pickles-

I don't think Aunt Bea poisoned her - cause she wasn't the first housekeeper-

Didn't the whole show start with them losing the housekeeper?

They had the other lady for a long time before Aunt Bea came

Now that I think about it Andy was the sheriff so what's to say he didn't kill her and cover it up? Maybe it is one of those secrets everyone knows so no one wants to talk about it.I mean if she was really taken early from him in a tragic death of some kind he should still have some kind words for her every so often. Maybe he hated the chick and offed her. That is why he never mentioned her. Just a thought.
