Andy and Barney are working late at the courthouse, when they get a visit from two wild women. Out of pure kindness, they drive the "fun girls" home, but don't know that Helen and Thelma Lou saw them leaving town.

  • It's nice to see Goober for the first time.

    10
As we all know Goober is the cousin of Gomer Pyle and this was the only episode we get to see them together. What's best about Goober is his imitation of Cary Grant: "Judy, Judy, Judy, Judy, Judy."
  • Barney and Andy "caught" with those girls again!

    8.5
It's always nice to see some continuity in the show--and seeing the "fun girls" again is certainly a hoot! The predictament they get into IS predictable--but always fun to watch! Thelma Lou and Helen add much to this episode--and of course the star of the show is Goober's first appearance--he's more understated than we usually see Goober (probably because his cousin is around!) Watching Andy's face when he realizes that once again Barney has gotten them into trouble is priceless!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In one scene, where Andy is in the back room, we see the framed newspaper headline of " Deputy Fife hero in cave rescue", referring to the episode in this season where he "rescued" Helen and Andy.

    • When Helen and Thelma Lou leave the theatre and are about to catch Andy and Barney driving off with the "Fun Girls" the billboard in the background behind them reads "Gary Grant."

  • QUOTES (1)

  • NOTES (4)

    • In this episode Barney reveals to Andy that he can sew and crochet.

    • This is the only episode that Gomer and Goober appear in together. Prior to that Gomer just talked about his cousin Goober a lot.

    • This episode marks the first appearance of Goober Pyle although Goober was first mentioned in the episode "Man in a Hurry" which, incidentally, was Gomer's first appearance in the series. Before Goober ever appeared in the show, Gomer would mention that he was a great mechanic, put a V8 engine on his rowboat (that thing will do 80, now that's fast on water), takes him mother visiting on Sunday, and once got lost in a cave trailing a skunk - and that Goober may be ugly, but he ain't stupid.

    • Producer Aaron Ruben penned this episode. He also wrote #127 - Gomer Pyle, USMC. Years later, he became a writer, producer, and story consultant for Sanford and Son. During that show's first season, Ruben was the lone writer for all but one episode(#12-The Suitcase Case).
