  • Opie fears going to the school dance because he doesn't know how to dance. Andy insists Opie face his fears and go anyway, then gets roped in to being a chaperone by Helen.moreless

This is one of the 6th season episodes that REALLY misses Barney Fife. When Aunt Bea gets the job of teaching Opie how to dance, all I could think of is how great the scene would have been if "old Twinkletoes" Fife had been giving Opie instruction. It would have been a comedy highlight. As is, we end up with a "nice" episode with a strong father-son story about growing up and facing once's fears. There is a mildly funny scene with Andy trying the new style of dancing, but this episode is more gentle and warm than it is funny.moreless
  • Opie learns to dance!

A very cute episode! Opie grows up and goes to his first dance--only he doesn't know how to dance. With Aunt Bee's help he learns the basics--only to discover that the kids are doing other kinds of "new dancing" (a la sixties style!) The scene where Andy must get up and dance "free-style" is a keeper--and must be seen!
