  • Opie the Honor Student?

    8.0
This episode is actually very well done--and the acting by Ronnie Howard is superb. I particularly liked the climax when Opie runs away from home because he fears he will not live up to his father's expectations. The exchange between father and son is very well acted and extremely well written. I also liked that Miss Crump shows up in this episode and we are beginning to see her as a series regular. The funniest scene in this episode is actually between Barney and Andy--when Barney proudly shows him a book that he has had since his school days--about history. He asserts he can remember everything. Listening to him try to recite the preamble of the American Constitution is definitely a series classic!moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • At the beginning of this episode, Aunt Bee allows Opie to skip drinking his milk at breakfast.  Barney later expresses his disapproval of this to Andy, which is puzzling because Barney wasn't even at the Taylors' house when it happened.

    • After Andy helps Barney recite the preamble to the Constitution, Barney gets himself all worked up and messes up his hair.  Opie then walks in, and Barney is suddenly sitting calmly with his hair perfectly combed.

    • When Opie is observing his new bicycle you will notice that the bell is on the right side of the handle bars, but watch closely and you will observe it switch to the left side mysteriously and then magically it returns to its original position.
