  • When Howard and Andy are captured by a couple of on the lam bank robbers, it's Otis to the rescue!

    7.0
Although this was not his best show, Hal Smith was always very funny as Otis. Unfortunately he played best when he could play off of Knotts as Barney and when the latter left the series, Otis' appearances became sadly infrequent. Ditto the episodes where the sheriff part of Andy's life is emphesized. I think this is the only crime related episode in Mayberry in the last two seasons.

While he and Otis do not really gel as a team (Howard lacks Barney's know-it-all quality) Howard actually gets the best laugh in the show when he tries to copy Andy and throws a glass of water out the window.moreless
  • Otis steps up the plate--sort of!

    7.5
It is interesting to see Andy getting caught by the escaped convicts--sort of like Perry Mason losing a case. This episode does have some funny moments--but not enough to truly make it above average. It just doesn't have any OOMPH--the combination of Howard and Otis just doesn't jell for me--those two characters just don't connect on screen with any degree of fluidity.
