  • It's Founder's Day in Mayberry and some crooks come to town figuring they can have an easy time robbing the state traveling museum. They're right.

    2.0
Another terrible episode for Jack Burns as Warren. This time he's fooled by a crook who is trying to pass himself off as a state policeman despite not having a.) a badge b.) any insignia c.) a gun d.) any authorization papers. He's too busy fooling with the town cannon to notice the guy is an obvious fake and is planning to steal from the state traveling museum that he's supposed to be guarding.

The powers that be at the Andy Griffith Show made a serious mistake building so many shows around Warren. They should have gradually worked him in and seen what strengths he might have (I see none) instead of throwing him in whole hog. Maybe they would have found a way his character worked. They didn't in this one.moreless
  • Where's Barney when you need him?

    4.0
This episode suffers greatly from the absence of Barney Fife--only he could have saved this episode from being one of the most boring of the series. There isn't any "life" to this episode--just a collection of silly lines and truly corny moments. Warren is embarrasingly portrayed and Goober comes up not sweet and funny but annoying.

The Cannon episode strikes a big bomb.

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • In this episode it is mentioned that the Mayor is on vacation in in Hawaii. It seems odd that the Mayor would schedule vacation during Founders Day (typically a rather large event for Mayberry). The mayor's name is never mentioned but it doesn't seem likely that Mayor Stoner (last seen in season 3) would be out of town for a big even like Founders Day.
