The Andy Griffith Show

Season 2 Episode 16

The Manicurist

Aired Monday 9:30 PM Jan 22, 1962 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • Ellen Brown has the distinction of being one of very few women to ever be seen inside Floyd's Barbershop.

  • Quotes

    • (Andy explaining to Ellen why she makes the Mayberry wives nervous)
Andy: I don't know whether you know this or not, but, uh... well, uh... nature's been good to you. I mean real, real, REAL good. I can't remember when I've seen nature spend so much time on any one person.

    • (Barney's reluctant to get a manicure)
      Ellen: I'll be real careful.
Barney: (shows his index finger) Well, be extra careful with that one. That's my trigger finger. You damage that and I might as well quit the business.
Ellen: Well, alright. I'll only do nine.

    • (to Floyd, about the manicurist)
Andy: She sure is pretty to look at, ain't she? Kind of like a calendar come to life.

  • Notes

    • In once scene we see three of the wives fuming over their husband's zealous interest in the new manicurist. One of these women is Emma Watson who is described often as a widow. I suppose she was either remarried to one of the men in the barbershop or she was simply adding her support to others!

    • Mayberry fans might recall that guest star Barbara Eden co-starred on an 11 city tour with Don Knotts in the Neil Simon play, The Last Of The Red Hot Lovers.

    • Barbara Eden recalled in an interview that she had heard that Andy was quite a taskmaster - and didn't think "glamour girls" could act. But after the show, Andy came to her and told her how great she was and how happy he was that she was on the show - which she treasured.
