I must confess that I am unclear about this episode, for it involves some shenanigans with a local band and the mayor being opposed to it. There isn't much that is watchable with this episode--I think the show was still finding it pace, and so it's interesting to watch it falter--when they involve so much "corn" and less emotion, without a direct storyline it's hard to follow.

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The name of Freddy Fleet's feature trumpet player - Phil Sunkel was named after a real life supposed "friend" of the show with the same name. Said friend, Phil Sunkel, would sue the show for using his name and likeness (he was also a musician) without permission. The outcome of the lawsuit has never been revealed.

    • The Mayberry Band has approximately 14 members. There is no way the entire band, instruments and all, could fit into the mini-bus we see at the end of this episode.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Barney tells Andy this his newly purchased cymbals are Andre Kostelanetz Marchers. André Kostelanetz was a popular orchestral music conductor and arranger, one of the pioneers of easy listening music. He was born in Russia but escaped to the United States after the 1922 Bolshevik revolution. Kostelanetz was not known to have composed, produce, or recorded any marching band music so it seems odd that a line of marching cymbals would be named after him.
