The Andy Griffith Show Season 1 Episode 1

Wow did this series start out strong. Most long running television shows tend to look and feel totally different in their early seasons as both the writers and actors feel out their characters and the show. The characters and stories in the first season of TAGS are some of the strongest of the entire series...and the show only gets better! As typical of most situation comedies the first epiosde (the actual pilot episode was an episode of The Danny Thomas Show the previous season) sets up the sitatuion of the series, the situation here being the introduction of Aunt Bee as the new matriarch of the Taylor household. This episode is both funny and touching. It introduces us to Aunt Bee and Barney Fife for the first time (Opie and Andy appeared in the pilot), we see the courthouse, the Taylor home, and the squad car for the firt time as well. If the end of this one doesn't choke you up you just ain't breathin! What a way to start this, the greatest of all television series!
