Although most fans believe that Mayberry was a segregated southern town, this is one of the few episodes that show blacks in the crowd.
The company that repossesses Jim Lindsey's car is the Mid-Mountain Finance Company.
According to Aunt Bee, Jim Lindsey's favorite dinner is fried chicken and cornbread.
According to Barney, Jim's big record is "Rock and Roll Rosie From Raleigh".
After eating the apples, Opie falls asleep in an "Elm City Delivery Service" truck.
Opie, in a cute little boy voice, says he will go back to planting his "Spiniss"
Frank mentions a trinket he got from the Saint Louis World's Fair. This international exposition, which was held in St. Louis, Missouri from April 30 until December 1, 1904, celebrated the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase and was officially called The Louisiana Purchase Exposition.
Aunt Bee wears glasses in this episode for what I believe is the first time.
In this episode, Andy says that the combination to the Mayberry Bank's vault was lost and that a back door was cut into it to allow access. But, in Season Three's The Bank Job, Barney gets locked in the vault and has to bust through the bank's back wall to get out.
Karen must be from the opposite side of the family than Mary Grace, Thelma Lou's "other" cousin - who Barney "affectionately" calls a dog!
Aunt Bee mentions she moved to Peoria when she was 18 and was "so skinny".
If Aunt Bee only moved to Mayberry last year from Mt. Pilot, how could she have entered the pickle contest and lost to Clara 11 years in a row?
When Barney tries to extract information from Otis, it is revealed that his house number is 411. 411 is the telephone number for information.
During the scene in which Barney attempts to use hypnosis to find out where Otis is getting his liquor, it is revealed that Barney's address is 411 Elm Street. Coincidentally this is the exact same address as the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas where Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy two years later.
Ellen Brown has the distinction of being one of very few women to ever be seen inside Floyd's Barbershop.
Andy smokes in this episode.
Children of all ages might recognize Bert Miller's unique, high, raspy voice. Sterling Holloway, who played Bert in this episode, is most famous for being the voice of Disney's beloved Winnie the Pooh!
Andy is shown with a cast on his arm (supposedly from a sprained wrist he got bringing in the Gordon boys). However, the cast has little or no impact on the plot and Andy is still wearing it in the next episode. This is because, in real life, Andy Griffith actually sprained his wrist driving his fist through a wall. The reason for this seemingly uncharacteristic outburst has been debated for years. Some say it was because of a fight he had with his then wife Barbara (who appears in The Song Festers), but no one really knows for sure.
Julie Adams (County Nurse Mary Simpson) was well-known at the time for playing Kay Lawrence - the abducted girl in the Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954).
This is one of only three times that a bathroom is actually shown in the series. And in both of those other episodes (Gomer the House Guest and Howard's Main Event), as in this one, only the sink is shown. Interestingly, based on the layout, apparently the Jail/Courthouse has no bathrooms at all and the cells have no toilets - although one cell does have a sink!
