  • Brilliant. Just brilliant.

When I first saw this episode on Netflix, I knew those three weren't on the level. The ending was excellent when Andy made it clear to those crooks that while he may not carry a gun, his deputies (particularly Goober and Floyd) do.
  • Not much to this episode.

    6.0
Remember in season 1 (or was it 2) when Mayberry was the safest town in the u.s. and some people came in to "reward" Barney and Andy, all the while planning a major heist? Now that one was funny--this one was just too similar and had no "bite" to it. Not too many laughs and way too predictable (even for this show!)

  • NOTES (1)

    • In this epsiode three criminals pose as Hollywood producers who are making a film based on a magazine article called "Sheriff Without a Gun." This article would become the basis of an actual film in season six via the series' only three episode arc (Taylor's in Hollywood). Interestingly enough, Gavin McLeod (of Loveboat fame) would play a fake producer in this episode but play the actor playing Andy in the Hollywood episodes.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The title of this episode, "TV or Not TV" is an allusion to the "To be or not to be" speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Before The Andy Griffith Show Andy's stand up comedy routines often contained country renditions of Shakespeare's plays, Hamlet was one his more popular renditions.
