The Aquanauts

Show Summary

Larry Lahr and Drake Andrews are two ex-Navy divers who now run an underwater salvage service. Yet each job ends up an adventure of action and drama. Andrews eventually has enough of civilian life and rejoins the Navy. Lahr could use a little less excitement too and decides to go in halves with another old dive buddy Mike Madison to open a store in Malibu, California, selling scuba diving equipment called The Aquanauts, while still accepting free lance diving jobs. Both divers have cool 1960s era bachelor pads at the posh Holiday House and there are lots of pretty girls in bikinis. And most of the time, their seemingly routine dive assignments still never turn out that way. Jeremy Slate and Keith Larsen starred as ex-Navy scuba divers in this one-hour underwater drama series originally titled The Aquanauts. Unfortunately, Larsen developed an ear infection in the middle of the season making it impossible to dive and was replaced by Ron Ely. The show was later retooled after Ely came on board and retitled Malibu Run, instantly making the sleepy little beach town famous. Guest stars on the show included Inger Stevens, William Conrad, Peter Falk, Mary Tyler Moore, Robert Vaughn, Anne Helm, Dyan Cannon, and Burt Reynolds. The Aquanauts (1960-61) aired Wednesday nights on CBS at 7:30 opposite Wagon Train on NBC and Hong Kong with Rod Taylor on ABC. The Aquanauts was followed on CBS by Secret Agent (a retitled British spy show called Danger Man) with Patrick McGoohan at 8:30. Unfortunately, the innovative and creative series only lasted one season, although Slate guest starred on Ely's later Tarzan series.moreless
