  • Well, nothing MUCH happened. And it took over 45 minutes.

The lawsuit/campaign against Rev Harding just get dropped. And he resigns anyway. Well, well...more underwhelming stuff.

His daughter agrees to marry the guy who, for reasons still insufficiently explained, spearheaded the attack. Is she emotionally disturbed? I think so, as later episodes demonstrate more of her bizarre choices seemed aimed at torturing/defying Daddy....but he barely ever shows a passionate response, so maybe this is a huge passive-agressive Electra complex thing. I don't know. I don't much care right now....and that's horrible.

The whole family seems mild and ineffectual, but the smartest and most reasonable one seem his eldest daughter, who chose a suitable, contrasting sort of mate in the Archdeacon, who is a very emotionally expressive and proactive man: the opposite of her father. I hoped the rest of the five episodes focus on Archdeacon Grantly, and you will too.moreless
