The Beiderbecke Affair

Show Summary

Welcome to The Beiderbecke Affair guide at TV.com. The Beiderbecke Affair is the first in a trilogy and carries on themes from Alan Plater's Get Lost (1981). Trevor Chaplin teaches woodwork and listens to jazz. Jill Swinburne teaches English and wants to save the planet. They make an unlikely couple. Trevor buys some jazz records from a "dazzlingly beautiful platinum blonde" and the chain of events that follows is bizarre and funny. A suspicious detective sergeant, a strange pair of men running a junior football team, a wistful French teacher and a pompous headmaster are just some of the characters in this modern classic all set to a background of Bix Beiderbecke sounding music. There were two sequel series, The Beiderbecke Tapes and The Beiderbecke Connection, both adapted by Alan Plater from his novels.
