Jethro: Um, sure. Come on, hop in.
Jed: I gotta take twenty five hundred dollars.
      Jethro: Oh, what fer?
Jed: Five hundred is fer Mr. Drysdale's bail. And two thousand is what he owes.
Jethro: Boy, I oughtta shoot that Mr. Drysdale.
Jed: If we don't get this money down there, there's a fella named Charley gonna do it fer you.

    • (Drysdale is trying to tell the cops that he is not crazy and does not believe he is Von Hindenburg when one of the cops discovers something)
Charley: I borrowed some money from a sergeant called "Dracula Drysdale."
      Drysdale: You did?
Charley: Ah-ha. Looked a lot like you. I don't believe I caught your name.
(Drysdale puts the Prussian Field Marshal helmet on)
Drysdale: (in a German accent) Von Hindenburg. I'd been hiding in Argentina for fifty years.

    • (Elly is on the phone with Jed, while Granny and Pearl are fighting over Walter McCegen)
Elly: They's fightin' out front. I'd best go help the loser.
      Jed: Who's losin'?
      Elly: Mr. McCegen.

    • (Pearl knows Elverna Bradshaw is listening on the line, so she brags about her family)
Pearl: Elverna Bradshaw, that is the rudest thing I ever heard tell of!
      Jed: What'd she do Pearl?
      Pearl: She hung up.

    • (Drysdale has told Miss Jane she must be Jethro's crew)
Jane: Bank crew reporting for duty, sir.
Jethro: But Miss Jane, you're a woman!
Jane: Thank you. That's the nicest thing that's been said to me all day.
Drysdale: What's the trouble here? You having trouble with this soldier? You could be shot for disobeying a general!
Jethro: It ain't that. I can't have a woman in my tank. You want people to think I'm a nut?!

    • (Jethro is wearing the uniform of Patton and Jed asks Drysdale what he thinks)
Drysdale: They'll put him right in section Eight.
      Jed: Is that good?
Drysdale: A lot of men try for it.

    • (Jethro's trying to decide what branch of the service to join by trying on different costumes)
Drysdale: Jethro, that's the uniform of a Prussian Field Marshall!
      Jethro: Hot dog!
Drysdale: If you show up to the induction center wearing that, they'll think (pauses and realizes what will happen) I, I like it. It's great. Now go right over, and when you walk in, give it this. (walks like the Nazi armies in WWII) Tell them Bismarck sent you.

    • Jane: You never saw combat did you?
Drysdale: Me? I went through some of the bloodiest fighting of the war. Got shot at a dozen times.
Jane: But you never went over seas.
Drysdale: When you lend money to soldiers at forty percent, you don't have to.

    • (Jed tells Granny to call Miss Jane to arrange for their trip to the Hills)
Granny: You mean Elly and me ain't gonna have no men folks to protect us?
Jed: You don't need no protection.
Granny: Jed, have you forgot what kind of men come up from them hollers at festival time? Why, even a woman at my age ain't safe from them bold rascals. Why, they's lible to grab me and kiss me and, let's go call Miss Jane. She's likely to want to go with us.

    • Jethro: Look what I got!
      Jed: From yer Ma?
      Jethro: No, from the President!
      Granny: President of what?
Elly: The President of the whole country!
Granny: You got a letter from Jeff Davis?!
Jethro: Granny, I keep tellin' ya, he ain't the President.
(Granny makes a fist at Jethro)
Jed: Now don't get into that scrap.

    • Jed: I hear tell Pete Hershed had a baby.
Granny: Way I hear it, it was his wife. (laughs but stops when she gets a look from Jed) I guess that is pretty old, ain't it?
Jed: That's older than both of us.

    • (Granny tells Jethro to pour what's in her jug into the truck)
      Jed: Is that mountain dew?
Granny: Yeah, and it DO get cha over the mountains.
Jed: And it do melt the engine.
