Elly misses her critters, and Granny shows her soft spot by feeding them. When Elly comes to visit, she takes Bessie to the bank with her. Jane and Elly try to hide it, but fail. After Drysdale discovers it is Elly May's, he is okay with it, and even lets her play with his wife's picture, hoping she'll break it, which she does.
Robert Audubon Getty, actually Dick Bremerkamp, visits the bank to give Elly a driving lesson, though Elly can't do it right. As Robert and Elly are talking after the lesson, he learns about her family and decides to play the role of Robert A. Crockett.
Jed and Granny are discussing Jethro's return, or actually waiting a few more days so they can have peace, as Dick pulls up as Davy Crockett's kin. He gets in good with Jed and Granny, getting an invite to supper, and Granny hopes that Elly marries this man. They also hope Jethro doesn't return for a while.
As Robert is trying to get rich, Drysdale is doing so too. He is using Bessie the chimp as a shoe shiner, charging thirty-five cents for the job done, not counting a tip. Drysdale has Bessie work in front of the bank building.
Back at Jane's building, Phinney congratulates Jane with her relationship with Robert, telling her that she helped improve him. Elly is tanning on the roof and Robert takes pictures of her. Jane comes up, and he mistakes her for a man. He runs away, and Jane follows him.
