EDIT
The Girls from Grun
AIRED:
After the Clampetts finish dining with the Grunion they captured, actually just a surfer boy and girl, they let them go and return home since they don’t put up a fight. Meanwhile, Drysdale wants to get his former secretary back and sends Helen to get Jane to return. Helen, while doing so, learns that the Clampetts still believe the Grunion are people, and when Drysdale learns this, he decides to visit the Clampetts and tell them they met the deserters, but he met the fighters. The Clampetts decide to go back to fight the tough Grunions, while the secretaries at the bank form a women’s lib group, naming themselves GRUN, Girls Resist Unfair Neglect. They hold their protest at the beach, and Elly sees Jane marching with the girls from GRUN, thinking she captured them, and Jethro comes carrying Ulla, a secretary, who tells the Clampetts that GRUN only has women, causing Jethro to swim to the island of Grun. Helen comes to the Clampetts to tell Ulla that Drysdale is weakening, and Jane gets the girls, saying Drysdale's surrendering, but the Clampetts don’t believe it. When they see the fireworks display, they believe that the U.S. is winning at Grun.moreless

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • In this episode, we learn exactly how mixed up Granny is about the Civil War. Throughout the series, she believes the South was victorious, winning every battle as well as the war. She also believed the North were cowards and rebels. Here we see Granny thinks that the North was fighting to defend slavery, while the South was trying to banish it. Slavery was a big part of the South's economy before the war, so who told Granny that the South was against it?

      • A few episodes ago, Jed didn't want anything to do with Mark Templeton because he thinks he is a coward for leaving the Navy when the Grunion are invading. However, in this episode Elly mentions that she talked to Mark on the phone about the Grunion. So the Clampetts didn't give up all contact with Mark. However, this is the last time he is mentioned on the show.

    • QUOTES (5)

      • (Jed and Miss Jane are talking about Grunion, and Jed still thinks they are people)
Jed: Well, I tell ya Miss Jane, they ain't scrappy enough to make it interesting.
Jane: They're not exactly fighters, are they?
Jed: Pitiful, scrawny lookin' little things, kinda like, uh?
        Jane: Smelt?
        Jed: Didn't get that close.

      • (Jed tells Granny that he thinks that to fight Grunion, you throw fish at them)
Granny: That ain't gonna turn back no invasion.
Jed: Now Granny, you get hit in the face with a bucket of fish, and you ain't gonna exactly feel welcome.

      • (Jethro says he wishes he would have kept that girl Grunion so he could have made her unload the truck)
Jed: We don't hold with having slaves boy.
Granny: That's right! We fought a war to make them Yankees give up that foolishness.

      • (Jethro kicks the tire and breaks it)
Jed: Well, that was real bright.
Jethro: Gotta be honest with ya Uncle Jed, it wasn't. In fact, it was kinda dumb.
        Jed: No.
Jethro: Oh yes sir. See, that's were education really pays off. I can tell the difference betwixt what's smart and what's dumb.

      • Granny: How was the food?
        Boy & Girl: Heavy!
Granny: Well, ya can't fill an eater like Jethro here with angel food cake.
