So a few weeks ago Sheldon discovered a new heavy element by accident and this week they expanded on that storyline - which is a first for TBBT (I could be wrong, I'm tired and it was late when I wrote this)

Sheldon was having a hard time accepting all the plaudits for his discovery, and it took a pep talk from Will Wheaton to get him out of his funk. and accept the praise - personally I would of liked him to milk the plaudits a bit (or revel in them for a while).

However, after all this, Leonard disproved Sheldon's discovery. which led to Sheldon retracting his article and a new nickname from Kripke.

Meanwhile, Raj was staying with Howard and Bernie.

Raj, seemingly forever positive, managed to create friction between the couple by being...well....too nice. His positive reinforcement of both individuals, turned them against each other, before they finally kicked him out.

This was just an average episode for me, it was funny, but not as funny as it could have been. I've said it previously, but this episode really highlighted the fact that some of the weaker episodes are just too busy.

Running 2 plots or more per week is starting to become a detriment to the show - the last episode managed to pull it off, but that may have been due to the fact that all the characters were under one roof, and there was overlap.

I really hope they start just running episodes with one plot line soon, because right now they are over extending Sheldon, instead of developing the other characters - it somehow diminishes his comedic impact on the show.

This episode could have probably worked just as well with either story being told on its own, but unfortunately they rushed through both

No lines of the night or extra goodies this week - I've had problems publishing this thing, so I'm rushing it

I love The Big Bang Theory, but I'm a huge fan of serialised television shows, so for the show to start developing storylines over several episodes (like they did here with Sheldon's discovery), would make the show that much more enjoyable for me. Like you said, I too would have liked to have seen Sheldon revel in the glory for a while. Perhaps they could have dedicated one episode to that, have Leonard reveal he disproved the theory as a cliffhanger, and then have the ramifications of that play out in the next episode. It sounds a lot more like a soap when I say it like that, I know, but that's just the sort of television I enjoy.

Poor Raj cannot ever catch a break can he? I understood why Howard was annoyed at him, because he was definitely a better husband (and all round person) towards Bernedette, but for the two of them to turn around and label him as the cause of their problems was downright rude. Raj is a nice person by nature, I can't believe that as his friends they can't expect that. Who doesn't want an overly nice friend? And for them to put their own personality and relationship deficiencies on him was a cop out. The lesson probably should have been that Howard learns to pay more attention to Bernedette, although that itself sounds incredibly cliché, so I'm not sure what else they could have done here.

The Raj story line just ended up seeming rushed and hollow

it was a cute episode but not great like the scavenger hunt and thanksgiving episodes. They did rush the story of Sheldon's discovery/retraction in this episode which is strange because it was a "2-parter". I don't recall them ever having a two parter before. I don't think the Raj staying with friends story could of sustained or fueled an entire episode. Don't get me wrong, I adore Raj but I'm not convinced it could work for an entire episode imo.

Would the episode have been better if they dropped Raj's story all together?

If they did the other storyline well (used the extra time correctly) then they could of either cut back ofnRaj's story in this episode or dropped it. I don't think it was essential however parts of it were cute. I don't think they could of expanded it to fill an entire episode so it is essentially "filler" yet it helped illuminate some of the relationships (areas the relationships need work on, etc....)~not sure if that was needed.

Maybe it was needed so the characters see what we see or what we could of seen... Do we really need to see how Howie and Bernie fall into the potential monotony that face long term relationships and then see they "fit" each other and want to be a united front. I'm not explaining it correctly but that did not seem essential to the show or the characters (maybe a little growth or insight into themselves and their relationship) but it seemed a bit early in their relationship for them to be taking each other for granted.

If Howard and Bernies plot actually went somewhere, then Raj's storyline could have been expanded

Totally agree about the busyness thing. I've been saying for the last few seasons that with Amy and Bernadette its just too crowded. The strongest episodes of the last couple of seasons have been those with the original 5 cast members.

mostly agree with this review, here's a few points that could/should of been used:

we see leonard actually trying the experiment maybe even with sheldon over seeing it that way it avoids the stupid pettiness of sheldon wanting something he can't have,, but still has the funny sheldon nit picking on things with leonard making sure he's doing it right..

the logistics of doing the experiment seem a bit out of reach for this 'poor university if they are always complaining about bad press/needing money..

as for raj well pretty much tuned out that part seemed pointless after the 'drama of battling spouces' and too cliche..

highlight of the ep for me was seeing penny curled up on the chair in her pj's with a mega gulp..

the best line of the ep for me was penny saying, tall thin and famous, omg i'm jealous of sheldon.

Agreed, and I like the experiment idea.
Either story could have filled an episode instead of rushing both of them

I was sleepy when I wrote the review, but that was a good line!

I agree with your assessment about trying to cram too much into 21 minutes of TV. My favourite episode this season and one of my favourite episodes in the show's history was the scavenger hunt. It showcased all the characters in a cohesive, well written and well-performed show. This is the type of episode I want to see more of. It was laugh out loud funny; something that is missing lately. If I want drama, I'll watch, well...anything else.

Also, I think everyone loves Sheldon's character, but they are overusing him. The scavenger hunt showed that the rest of the cast can carry the ball and that there is actually some unexplored avenues the writers could go down.
That episode gave us different dynamics to the normal ones - Howard and Amy were a highlight for me - and I

i'm gradually going off sheldon he's not the same as he used to be and this season is too much sheldon centric there's only so much egotistical, racist, petty, teachable moments i can take....

I agree wholeheartedly. There is too much talent on this cast and too many possibilities that don't revolve around Sheldon.

Indeed. Howard and Amy belting it out to Neil Diamond had the tears rolling down my face. I went back and watched it again and laughed just as hard. That episode was followed closely by the Thanksgiving one. It had some great moments as well.

I am still finding my way around this website. I look forward to reading your posts down the road.
