This episode focused more on the quirkiness of the characters, the colorfulness of genius personalities, which is what I love about the show and what makes it different. Laurie Metcalfe is priceless as Sheldon's mother, and her down-to-earth strength is a perfect foil for her son's big-headed neurosis.
However, I still feel that Penny is being underutilized, and I still miss the fun of her friendship with the brilliant nerds across the hall that highlighted how differently they viewed the world. And I still miss all the geeky science that made the show so much fun, from dancing cornstarch on speakers to bouncing a laser off the moon.
I hope the show veers back towards what made it so special.
