  • PLASTIC DREAM SPOCK

The Big Bang Theory: Dude, Where’s my Nimoy?

When I heard that Leonard Nimoy would be guest-starring on an episode of The Big Bang Theory, certain expectations took root in my nerd brain. Specifically, that the mighty Nimoy (we are not worthy!) would actually make an appearance.

  • Episode Summary

Sheldon faces a crisis of conscience after breaking a Star Trek toy given to him by Penny. Meanwhile, a lonesome Raj is smitten after a date set up by his parents.

My opinion of this episode is probably very biased, as I'm also something of a Star Trek fan. I can't help myself - I just love the transporter, the Spock figurine, Sheldon's Gorn-infected dreams and numerous other references - and Leonard Nimoy, guest-starring as the voice of the Spock figurine, makes this one of the most notable episodes of the show in my book.

As fare as the other side of the episode goes - agreed that the subplot revolving around Raj's selective mutism/sexuality is overused, but here it's amusing enough. And I do love it when we get to see a skype conversation between Raj and his parents!moreless
    • Amazing episode!

One of the best episodes ever!

Voice of Leonard Nimoy for the little Spock toy was amazing!

      Congrats!
    • A good episode, though definitely not the best this season.

I am all for character centric episodes. Raj is a good character to poke fun at, but the "is he gay thing" is getting very tired. Let him have a date for the wedding ... please? Even let me get to use his Bologna. Though the gay girl friend sub-plot was definitely the best part of the whole episode. The Sheldon plot line was disappointing, but I am not sure why. I did not miss Amy either. The Wiggly Finger Catalyst was a much better Raj Episode. The best episode this season for me remains the Halloween Episode.moreless
    • Hallelujah, a (fairly) good episode, at last!

Finally! Not laugh out loud funny like the best episodes of the first couple of series, but actually amusing, with good interplay with all the characters. I wonder what the mystery factor could be - why this one was so much better than the others? Hmm... 19 episodes with Amy, all flat; 1 episode without Amy, best episode of the series by far. No, can't quite see it, but I'm sure it will come to me.moreless
    • BEST EPISODE, THE OLD DAYS ARE BACK :)

I almost have lost interest in the serie after the second season. Bad writing and lack of imagination!

But this last episode was genius, the two main stories Raj and Mini Spok (with Nimov voice), are perfect in every dialogue.

Just want to know who is the author, well above the rest.

      • Sheldon: 50% of all marriages end up in divorce, but 100% of make-your-own-sundae-bars end up in happiness.

      • Sheldon: I opened your toy… discovered it was broken, and didn't tell you.
Leonard: Why would you open mine?
Sheldon: I didn't. That was a lie. I opened my own toy… and it was already broken, so I switched them.
Leonard: Then you should talk to Stuart.
Sheldon: I can't, because that was a lie. Yours… was broken in an earthquake, and that's a lie.
        Penny: What is the truth?
Sheldon: My Mr. Spock doll came to me in a dream and forced me to open it, and when the toy broke, I switched it for yours. Later, he encouraged me to do the right thing and I defied him, then I was attacked by a Gorn.
        Leonard: Okay, that I believe.

      • Penny: I got a little residual check from my commercial, and I thought, hey, how about I get the guys a little thank you to pay them back? So, Sheldon… (pulls toy out of bag) ta-daa!
Sheldon: (gasps) A vintage mint-in-box 1975 Mego Star Trek Transporter with real transporter action! Hotdarn!
Leonard: (awestruck) Where did you get that?
Penny: That's from Stuart at the comic book store.
Leonard: You went to the comic book store by yourself?
Penny: Yeah, it was fun. I walked in and two different guys got asthma attacks. Felt pretty good.

      • Sheldon: This calls for an expression of gratitude.
Penny: Ooooh, am I about to get a rare Sheldon Cooper hug?
Sheldon: No, not this time; then they wouldn't be special. (points fingers like a gun and makes a clicking sound) Thanks, Penny!

      • Bernadette: I think we found someone for you to cuddle with. (reaches into her purse and hands Raj a Yorkshire Terrier puppy)
Raj: Oh, my goodness! Aren't you the cutest little Yorkie ever! You got him for me?
Howard: Her. We thought you two would hit it off.
Raj: I think we already have! Thank you guys so much! (to the puppy) Let's go see if you fit in my man purse.
Bernadette: (to Howard) "Metrosexual" my ass.
