The Big Bang Theory

Season 4 Episode 3

The Zazzy Substitution

Aired Monday 8:00 PM Oct 07, 2010 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • Mary mentions having a brother named Edward (aka "Stumpy"), but he was nowhere to be seen on Sheldon's family tree he made in just the previous episode, just a brother named Carl.

    • Sheldon getting cats breaches two distinct continuity issues. In "The Staircase Implementation", Sheldon stated that pets are banned under the roommate agreement (with the exception of service animals). In addition, in "The Fuzzy Boots Corollary" Sheldon objects to Leonard wanting to get a cat. Leonard then replies that he had taken Sheldon's asthma into account as he found a hairless cat.

    • When Sheldon is talking to Penny in the laundry room, Penny takes out the same orange shirt from her laundry basket three times.

    • In the first scene with multiple cats, Sheldon says that Richard Feynman is the name of a white cat (on the back of the couch). In the scene in Sheldon's bedroom with his mother and Leonard, Sheldon points to an orange cat as being Feynman.

  • Quotes

    • Mary: Now, when you said on the phone that he broke up with a girl, you meant an actual girl, not something you kids whipped up in a lab?
      Leonard: No, she's real.
      Mary: Did they sin?

    • Mary: Sheldon, sit down. Let's talk.
Sheldon: All right, but you're not fooling me. Whenever you say we have to talk, it means you want me to listen.
      Mary: Then stop talking.
      Sheldon: Yes, ma'am.

    • Leonard: Did you guys see the paper in the American Physics Journal on super solids? It's pretty interesting. This guy's working for my hypothesis—
      Raj: Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert!
      Leonard: What?
Raj: Don't ruin it for me, man! I printed out a PDF to read on the potty.
Howard: "On the potty?" What are you, five?

    • Penny: Alrighty! What's new?
Amy: Well, just recently I learned that you refer to us as Shamy, and I don't like that.
Penny: Uh, I got, it but what I was going for was—you know—how's your life?
Amy: Like everybody else's: subject to entropy, decay, and eventual death. Thank you for asking.

    • Penny: God, [Raj]'s an ass when he drinks.
Wolowitz: He's an ass when he doesn't, you just don't hear it.

    • Leonard: Okay, fine. Live with cats. Be like my Aunt Nancy. She had dozens of them. And do you know what happened after she died? They ate her.
Sheldon: You don't have to sell me on cats, Leonard, I'm already a fan.

    • Penny: I hear you broke up with Amy.
Sheldon: A breakup would imply she was my girlfriend. She was a girl who was my friend who is now a girl who is not my friend.
Penny: Wow. That's, like, the worst country song ever.

    • Sheldon: I'd like you to meet Oppenheimer, Frisch, Panofsky, Feynman, Weisskopf—
Mary: Yeah, I get it. You got a lot of cats, and you gave 'em cute Jewish names.
