First time I can recall that they got the science wrong.

When Sheldon and Penny were in the rock store, he says that Silicon is the most abundant element on the Earth but it's not.

On Earth as a complete planet, Iron is the most abundant and in the Erth's crust, Oxygen rules.

Sheldon said COMMON element ... not abundant ....

Shelson actually says "That (Silicon) is the most common element on the Earth's surface"

Just checked it at 13:02 into the episode.

Can you explain how, in the context used in the show, "most common" is different to "most abundant", please?

Most common or most abundant, Oxygen still beats Silicon.

Over 90% of the Earth's crust is composed of silicate minerals; this makes it "the most common element on the Earth's surface." It is second most abundant on the planet to oxygen.

You provided the quotation. Oxygen is most abundant in the atmosphere through water vapor and air, but silicon is most abundant because of silicate minerals. As far as discounting silicate minerals, you are becoming nitpicky. Silicon is an element that is part of the compound. The only way your statement for iron is correct is if you discount every element that pretty much isn't a metal or gas. Just about every other element is either found in a compound or man-made.

But I'll provide a source that, at least, proves me more right than you.

I repeat, on Earth AS A WHOLE, Iron is the most abundant element.

On the Earth's surface/crust, made up as you say primarily of Silicates, these being predominately one Silicon to FOUR Oxygen, Oxygen vastly beats Silicon in abundance.

Silicate is NOT an element, it's a compound.

Well this episode firmly cemented my view that Bernadette is a terrible, annoying beyotch. I don't know why anyone is friends with her anymore, and her psychotic vacillation between the saccharine child voice and the "Mrs. Wolowitz" scream is so irritating it's all I can do not to change the channel. I hope Howard divorces her and marries Raj.

We are seeing the fleshing out of a character .. live with it not everyone is perky some people are perky but have a dark side ... she, Bernadette had 5 or 6 siblings and was raised in a very competitive environment, and this also gives her character a lot of depth ... I just love her ...
