EDIT

Heath falls for a beautiful Spanish girl, whose father happens to be involved in a land dispute with the Barkleys! Her father disapproves of Heath because of his illegitimate birth, picturing a much finer bred man for his only daughter. He sets about using the land problems to break them apart.

  • Senor del Loco gives Heath a tough object lesson in bad breeding

    8.0
Seven episodes into the first season, Heath still can't escape the flack from his illegitimate birth. This time, a prominent Spanish neighbor who struts around in periwinkle blue pleather doesn't want his single daughter to go mixing her DNA with Heath's. To prove his point, he shoots his own mongrel bull dead, right in the head, then gives Heath a significant look.

Don Alfredo is rather dashing in his periwinkle, and his daughter's splendid wardrobe is that of an 1800's fashionista. We glimpse a more youthful Karl Swenson before he headed for the set of Little House on the Prairie, and the scene with the murdered bull is just hilarious. What's not to like about this episode?

Here's a solution to Don Alfredo's dilemma of his daughter marrying a "half-breed" with questionable pedigree: he himself should have proposed to Victoria. Then, he could keep the wealth and the family eminence untainted, and his daughter and Heath would be step-siblings.moreless
