It was OK.
Problem is, aside from Bill's style there's really not much more that sets it aside from any given sitcom on any given network.
It is only the first episode, though. SO that could change.
Compared to other current shows, this was a good bit above average. On its own merits, however,it was pretty lame, especially given Bill Engvall's presence; he could've been replaced withany of severalsitcom dad actors and the show would've been essentially the same. Nothing aboutany of the charactersparticularly stood out -- generic sitcom, although a bit cleaner than most newer onesAs much as Jeff Foxworthy says that his own sitcom of several years ago was awful, it was much better than this. I'll watch it again, though, because it wasn't actually offensive (an improvement over most current garbage) and it's possible that it mightget better-- short of plunging into gutter humor, it's not likely to get worse --but short of a huge improvement or major overhaulI don't see this show lasting very long.
I really wanted to like this show, but I think Bill lost his sign. He's better suited to sketch comedy as in Blue Collar TV or Foxworthy's Big Night Out. I think any of the Blue Collar guys, alone or in combination, could carry off a sketch show, but if Foxworthy was unhappy with how his sitcom turned out (I think it was better than he acknowledges) I don't see any of the other guys doingany better at it, especially not given such a bland platform.
I like this show. It's not nearly as raunchy as alot of sitcoms these days. I think it's unique because unlike most sitcoms these days, the comedy comes from the situation instead of disfunction. When TBS approached Bill about making a sitcom that's what he said he wanted. I think it's nice to go back to the way sitcoms used to be.
