First season ending episode in the supernatural mold is good but not great. Jaime is sent to a town near Salem Mass. to act as a nanny to a very young Kristy McNichol whose father (Paul Shenar) is working on a project of interest to the OSI. Eerie and otherwordly events seem to be undermining the project, so Jaime's job is to ensure the success of the project while also patching up apparent rift between father and daughter that has developed since the death of the mother a year earlier. Twist: the mother comes from a long line of witches -- one was even burned at the stake! Effective lighting and sets add to the supernatural mood. Gripe: why is it that Jaime must flirt with every male guest star? The rapport between Jaime and the father is inappropriate; particularly considering the state of mind of the daughter. Ironically, guest star Paul Shenar died of AIDS in 1989.moreless

    • In the scene in the lab where the spirit was causing havoc, as the camera pans over the large silver box on the table, inside is Dr. Hatch's Cryptograph Analyzer that Jaime was accused of stealing in "The Jailing Of Jaime."

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Jaime: Oh, what are we talking about? She was wide awake this afternoon - when the acid fell, and the bookcase...
Alan: Yes, but her resentment for my work and you may be becoming so strong that her subconscious is becoming dominant - even when she's awake. Oh... and this morning, when I left, I told her that I'd be starting Phase 2 of the Alpha Project when I got back.
Jaime: And then you kissed me goodbye. Poor little thing - she probably feels more threatened now than ever.

    • Jaime: Mmaybe when she's sleeping, her subconscious uses those abilities to lash out at your work or at me or at anything that could possibly take you away from her. I'm not saying that she's aware of what she's doing, but I think she has, in her dreams, her mother acting out her desires.
Alan: She was asleep each time, wasn't she? Even yesterday, at the lake... Jaime, I think you may be on to something.

    • Jaime: You tested her conscious mind - what about her subconscious mind?
      Alan: What?!
Jaime: Well, isn't it possible that she has telekinetic abilities in her subconscious?
Alan: Well, yes... I suppose that's possible.

    • ((The energy detector is going crazy)
Amanda: It's Mother. I know it's Mother. She's been trying to interfere with Daddy's work; trying to get him to spend more time with me.
Jaime: Amanda, that acid fell on me.
Amanda: Maybe she's jealous because Daddy kissed you goodbye.
Jaime: I don't believe in ghosts. There's got... there's just got to be another explanation for this.

    • Alan: Well, it seems that several of Elizabeth's ancestors had, uh, unusual abilities. One of them - Rebecca Putnam - died in jail. She'd been put there for practicing witchcraft.
Jaime: And you attribute, uh, this to witchcraft?
Alan: Well, the superstitious call it that. Parapsychologists call it telekinesis - the ability to move objects with the mind.

    • Jaime: Where is Essexville, anyway?
Oscar: Along the coast of Massachusetts, between Boston and Salem.
Jaime: Salem? (cackling like a witch) Maybe I should just gas up my broomstick, huh?

    • Oscar: This force is getting the townspeople upset, and I think Alan Cory knows what's going on, but for some reason, he won't tell me.
Jaime: What makes you think he's going to let me play detective in his house?
Oscar: Because the O.S.I. has supplied him with a new governess for his daughter.
Jaime: What happened to the old governess?
Oscar: She left after the last... uh... "incident".

    • Jaime: Ghosts?
Oscar: You said that, not me. I didn't say "ghosts". I just said "something". Some force; some energy. I don't know what it is. All I know, it's something that's interfering with a very important O.S.I project.
Jaime: So how do I fit in?
Oscar: You are going to do some bionic snooping, my dear.
