  • Is this Tommy's last gasp?

    9.5
Kate sets Tommy up with Munst, a famous local painter. She tells Tommy that Huey always knew Tommy had potential. But from the look in Kate's eye, I think it is Kate that sees lots of potential in Tommy. And I don't think it has anything to do with paint. Meanwhile, Kevin reveals to Jimmy that he kept Louie's cell, against Jimmy's orders and took bets on it. One of the losers turned out to be Nicky. Who now knows that the Donnellys are working Louie's book-making action. Which could get them all killed. In TBDs tradition to never go at a problem in the way you'd expect, Jmmy doesn't wait for Nicky to come and get them. He decides to go after Nicky. In a funny scene Jimmy takes Whitey to Nicky's bar -- and when he finds out that Nickys' not there - robs it of the exact amount Nicky lost to Kevin! Only that doesn't get the desired result. Nicky refuses to deal with Jimmy, 'the hot head junkie brother'. Nicky wants to deal with Tommy, 'the smart brother'. In fact, Nicky treats Tommy with respect and makes him an offer. Which puts Jimmy and Tommy at each others throats, and sets the stage for a big showdown. At the end of the episode Tommy goes back to the painter one last time. You can see in his eyes how much finally giving up his dream of getting out of the neighborhood is going to hurt.moreless

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Joey: Actually, now that I think about it, no wonder I'm depressed. It was the day I lost my dream too.
      Psychiatrist: Oh?
Joey: I always wanted to be a short-order cook.
Psychiatrist: So why didn't you ask her for a job?
Joey: (surprised) I never thought of that!

    • Joey: The one guy who could've had his dream and made it out of the neighborhood. Whitey. He was so fast he could've made the Olympics or something like that, but the idiot never went out to track.

    • Joey: (narrating) Now for some people, losing a dream can make you dangerous 'cause they don't think long term. They just want what they want, when they want it.

    • Tommy: When the Pope calls me, I'll clean his toilet.

    • (Jimmy opens the cashier to Nicky's bar and starts taking out money)
Mia: You do know that Nicky Cottero owns this bar, right? Well, the last guy that didn't pay his bar tab, got a meat hook up his ass. What do you thinks gonna happen to you if you rob the place? (to Whitey) What's the matter with this guy?
Whitey: I can't talk to him either.

    • Dokey: Jack, you talk to me like I'm some street punk again and I'm gonna cut your tongue out.

    • Joey: (narrating) Now Dokey had a dream too. He wanted to be his brother, Huey. Councilman Jack Trevor recently told Dokey how to achieve that dream. Unfortunately, things kept getting in the way.

    • Kevin: Okay, we got a problem.
(He shows Jimmy Louie's cell phone)
      Jimmy: What's this?
      Kevin: Louie Downtown's cell phone.
Jimmy: The one you were supposed to throw away!
Kevin: Yeah, but that's not the problem.
(Cut to Jimmy smashing the phone on the counter)
Jimmy: That's how you're supposed to get rid of a cell phone, Kevin!
      Kevin: I guess I should've done that.

    • Joey: See, Tommy Donnelly's dream was to pursue all that art crap. Now, it's a little gay for me but for Tommy, it was the only thing other than Jenny Reilly that he ever really wanted. And he decided to go for it once and for all.
