  • Painful to watch, but in a good way, the entire ep waiting for sthg to go wrong!

This one was actually the first Donnelly's ep I saw (it's currently airing in Argentina). It really surprised me, since I wasn't sure what it was all about.

I liked the whole issue of holding Huey's wake at the Firecracker, being Tommy the one who'd killed him in the first place. The tension was palpable troughout the entire episode, not only because Dokey was trying to find out what'd happened to his brother (some of the Donnelly's almost getting a few fingers axed), but also betwwen Tommy & Jenny & Kate..

Pitty it's only a few episodes long, because it's a really interesting series!moreless
  • Great episode!!

I thought this episode was great. The whole episode was very tense. It might not have been if Jimmy didn't go shooting off his mouth about his brothers killing someone. I can't believe Tommy was holding the wake at the bar. One of the scenes I liked in this episode was the scene between Tommy and Huey's son, about his uncle and why people call him Dokey. I thought that was a pretty funny story. Something else I thought was kind of funny was that Joey Ice Cream was telling the story from a jail cell. I loved this episode. I thought it was great and very well written. Can't wait to see what happens next.moreless
  • Huey's wake causes some troubles for the brothers

When Kate asked Tommy if they would do the wake at the Firecracker, I though OMG. But he really did it. Of course. What other choice did he have? He would have looked suspicious if he hadn't. And after all it was all more or less okay. But I was really worried for a sec that Dokey was gonna harm them. Fortunately, smart as he is, Tommy came up with the right part of the truth and served it ice-cold. In the end, Dokey was pretty convinced that they didn't kill his brother, IMO...

Anyway, I so like Jenny and Tommy together. How can she go with that stupid Samson? She just wanted to hurt Tommy which partly I can understand considering the fact that he killed two people and she's carrying that weight with him... I just hope she'll either get over it or tell (please not...). Because making him feel guilty isn't nice.moreless
  • Mostly, this episode is about 2 funerals and the Donnelys trying to avoid being discovered, as the authors of the killings!!!

I enjoyed a lot this episode, because it looked more as one of "The Sopranos", and not as the last ones we were accustomed to...It had a lot of elements pointing this way, from the daring ones, such as the drug scene, when the friend of Jimmy injects herself, the part when Jimmy desecrated a tomb, to some normal ones...A part i had a problem with, was when the employee of Dokie puts his fingers in the drain, and touches fresh blood...Shouldn't the blood have disappeared? Also the part when Kevin goes and steals a cab, and then some alcohol...He does it in his own neighborhood...This elements are a negative part of this show in my opinion, but beside this, this show was exciting, with a lot of action and unpredictability.moreless
  • Yay! Funeral fun!

Hm. You know, even though I'm enjoying The Black Donnellys so far, I can never seem to have very many words to say in regards to it when the time comes to write these lovely little reviews.

I'm not really sure why that is, though. Is it that I don't find much fault in the show? Is it because the show is still fairly young and I'm trying to become acclimated to it? Who knows? This was another good episode, if not overly amazing.

This episode looks like it puts all of the "Dokey suspects the Donnellys of killing his brother, which of course they actually did but they don't want him to find out" business to rest, but somehow I doubt that it actually does. It feels like it's too big of an issue to merely spend two episodes dealing with it and nothing coming of it. Maybe it's gone for now, but it'll be back for sure.

Did I miss something in the last episode? Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but when exactly did Jenny find out about what Tommy did? We saw in the last episode that she had her suspicions, but I thought that that's all she had. In this episode, it seems she knows everything. I suppose one could say that she's assuming that what she knows is correct, but even then Tommy doesn't seem suprised at all when she brings it up.

The mafia (that is, the Italian mafia) funeral scene(s) felt, again, like they were taken straight out of The Sopranos, with the FBI snapping photos like crazy and everything. A solid episode if not great. Looking forward to next week.moreless

  • QUOTES (25)

    • Dokey: (to Tommy) You ever point a gun at me again and I will hack you in half. While you're screaming, you got that?

    • Dokey: You pull guns on me... You are dead!
Jimmy: (smiling) And you acted so friendly.

    • Joey: There are a couple of things you need to know about the Irish. I forget the first. But the second thing is this: they don't believe that death is the end, they think it's about resurrection. And what is more life affirming than sex.

    • (Watching Jimmy urinate on a tombstone)
Nicky: I'm going to cut it off!
Alo: Yeah, real smart Nicky. Make sure the Feds get a nice shot of you doing it too.

    • (Kevin and Joey sneak into a restaurant and find some Kosher wine)
Kevin: Crap! All we got here is Jew wine. We allowed to drink this stuff?
Joey: Who wouldn't allow you, Kevin?
Kevin: I don't know. It's unholy or something.
      Joey: It's fine!
Kevin: I mean it's alcohol too, right?
Joey: Yeah, only it's Rabbi approved alcohol.

    • Dokey: I know that my brother came to talk to you in the hospital. I know that he sent his driver home. And he called a cab. And then he went straight to Sal's, alone. And he wouldn't do that, Tommy. So that tells me you know why.
Tommy: I wish I did. I wish I could help you.
      Dokey: I don't believe you.

    • Dokey: (to Matthew) I know you're young, buddy. But you're still the man. So I don't wanna see you crying in here, okay? I don't have a son of my own, Matt. So I'm looking to you to make me proud. I want you to walk in there, standing tall with your head held high. It's the way you're daddy would've wanted it. And you're a Farrell! And Farrell's don't wear their hearts on their sleeves. Alright? Do you know what that means? Means you don't go showing the world how you feel. Keep it locked up real tight, right in here, okay? That way people can't take the good pieces away from you.

    • (Kevin is trying to carjack a taxi)
      Kevin: Get the hell out.
      Cab Driver: Why?
Kevin: Why don't I shoot you then explain it?
Cab Driver: Who shoots somebody with a gun in their pocket?

    • Tommy: We're going to get through this day together. Alright, nobody's going to get suspicious unless we act suspicious.
Jimmy: Did you go to school to get that stupid?

    • Joey Ice Cream: This is crazy. Do we have credit? Do we have money? Do we even have a way to transport the alcohol if it were to fall from the sky?
Kevin: Remember when we were kids and had a contest to see who could shut up the longest?
Joey Ice Cream: No. Who won?

    • Dokey: Jimmy Donnelly. Should've known I'd find you puking in an alleyway.

    • Kevin: Why do you need a gun Jimmy.
Jimmy: Cause I got to kill Dokey, thanks to my idiot brother, he thinks I killed Huey.

    • Joey Ice Cream: There was no way for him to know way back then that God was gonna take away the one thing Tommy wanted most.

    • Huey: (to young Tommy Donnelly, in a flashback) You know what else men do? They take care of their mom and their brothers, no matter what.
Joey: (in voiceover narration) How was Huey to know that one day that little bit of advise would be that thing that got him killed?

    • Dokey: (to Nicky) Let me stop you right there, okay? This is my brother right here. I always told him the biggest mistake he ever made was working with you Italians. But he didn't listen to me, and that's why he's in here. Can I show you out?

    • Jenny: You're throwing Huey's wake? Please tell me you know how wrong that is.

    • Joey: And this is the way life works sometimes. If they hadn't killed Louis Downtown they woulda been dead right then and there.

    • Dokey: What happened to the paying your respects part of this?
Nicky: I just said a silent prayer.

    • Kevin: Can I remind you that we killed her husband?

    • (As he watches Jenny leaving with Sampson at Huey's wake)
Tommy:I think if you can remember what a person meant to you and hold onto that feeling.... I think you can survive a time like this.

    • Joey: I thought you said you waited here?
Kevin: No I applied. The bastards wouldn't hire me becuase of my shadey employment history.

    • Tommy: (about why the liquor clerk is going to give them the alchcol) Your daughter has a crush on Kevin and if you don't do it, he's going to date her.

    • Cab Driver: You're stealing my cab? I know who you are. You're a Donnelly.
Kevin: Yeah! Then you know that me and my brothers will beat you to a pulp if you report this.

    • Joey: There are a lot of guys in my neighborhood who would still be alive today if they'd just shut up and gone to bed the night before.

    • Joey: It's not as bad as you think, I mean having people come after you. Where I come from it's normal. I mean guys will kill you for looking at 'em wrong. Course when this happens there's usually a fair amount of alcohol involved.
