So now that another season has wrapped, I must confess that I'm still baffled by Red's ultimate game. We've known since season one that he "knows things" about Liz and her family that he doesn't want to tell her. He also "knows things" about Tom and his family apparently. He may or may not be a child kidnapper, or at the very least the perpetrator of a conspiracy meant to keep both of them from knowing who their parents are, and keeping their parents from knowing that their children are still alive. Oh, and he's never really wanted Liz and Tom to be together either. If that's been his whole plan, it's certainly not going that well for him. Now that it seems to be unraveling, can we finally expect some answers next season, or are they going to continue dragging this shaggy dog story out for a few more years? Since he seems to have a long history with both families, please don't let it be that he's secretly both of their fathers, because then Tom/Liz/Agnes...Ewww!

And let's all say a prayer for Red's long time confidant and fixer, Kate. She's going to need it.

The show is now officially for girls. The Keen lady has turned from a nice cold blooded killer who covers up murder to a hormonal wreck. Tom Keen is now a pussy. Dembe and Red are still badass but don't get enough air time.

LIZZY’S PARENTAGE ISN’T THE BIG REVEAL – ok it is quite a reveal but one of many.

Hi guys I'm from the UK so only as far as Season 3 Episode 3.

The BIGGER reveals are what happened the night of the fire, and if you think lizzy shot her father, be it Reddington or another man, then I think you are wrong and, what happened that mysterious night – the one that Reddington is in the dark about.

I think we will find out soon that Lizzy’s father is Red.The reveal is WHY he won’t tell her apart from the obvious (to protect her from his enemies).

With regard to the mysterious incident, please read below:

Season 1 Ep 1 Pilot

  1. Raymond "Red" Reddington attended the Naval Academy.
    Top of his class.
Graduated by the time he was 24.
He was being groomed for admiral.
    Then in
1990, Reddington's coming home to see his wife and his daughter for Christmas.
    He never arrives.

Season 1 Ep 1 Pilot

  1. Reddington: How about a trade? You tell me and I'll tell you. Tell me about the scar on your palm.
I've noticed how you stroke it.
Lizzy: There was a fire. I was fourteen.

We know now Lizzy was 4 NOT 14 at time of fire – pilots often inconsistent as they don’t know if show will be broadcast etc.

In season 2 ep 11 Lizzy celebrates her 31st Birthday – the fire therefore took place in 1988 when Lizzy was 4.

Season 1 Ep 14 Madeline Pratt

  1. Reddington: I ran out of gas. I was so excited to get home, I didn't even bother to look. My head was just... I ran out of gas.
Madeline Pratt: What are you talking about?
Reddington: It was Christmas Eve. I... pulled off to the side of the road. Seemed like it'd been snowing for days. No traffic. No cars to come help. Just me and a car full of gifts.
    It was
more than 20 years ago. I must have walked four miles five, maybe. It was so still. Just cold and white. The whole time, all I could think about was them in our house. The warm light in the windows, the smoke from the chimney. The sound of my daughter at the piano. The smell of the tree and the fire, oyster stew on the stove. I was so upset to think that I'd ruined Christmas for them, being late, leaving the gifts in the car.
But the closer I got, the more I realized how funny the whole thing was, how much they'd love the story, daddy running out of gas, how every Christmas they'd get such joy from telling that story at my expense. And then, finally... I got there. I walked... I walked through the door. And there was... just blood. All I saw was blood. All there was was blood. I can... I can still s-smell the nape of her neck... feel her little... fingers on my cheek... her whisper in my ear.

More than 20 years ago – this event, the one in which Reddington doesn’t know what happened; took place prior to 1995.

I believe that all of these incidents did take place and that they are all separate incidences which coincidentally took place around Christmas time.

We know that Red doesn’t know what happened that night…Well he knows what happened the night of fire with Lizzy, because he was there. When he finally meets up with his ex wife (Naomi Hyland) Season 2, Ep 4 – neither of them discuss the past – Red doesn’t quiz Naomi about what happened that night and Naomi doesn’t quiz Red – why?Because they both know what happened; Red disappeared and Naomi and her daughter Jennifer went under the witness protection programme.

The mystery; the night that Red wants to know whathappened; is the night PRIOR to Lizzy’s fire and Christmas of 1990 when he disappeared. It’s the night that he was going home to his family (a previous family that the FBI have no record of), to find “just blood. All I saw was blood. All there was was blood.I can… I can still s-smell the nape of her neck… feel her little…. Fingers on my cheek… her whisper in my ear.”

Raymond Reddington has TWO daughters – an older daughter who died in his arms at home one Christmas Eve PRIOR to the other two incidents, and Lizzy, who he hid in the closet to protect from her mother, but that’s another story...

Sorry this is so long - first time I've done this - please let me know what you think and thanks for reading.
Sorry

The long ones are always the best ones. And more so, if it's someone paying attention to detail.

Spoiler. The Troll Farmer is a person or group that can help manipulate situations like how the CIA manipulates world wide issues. Thus, giving hint to why Reddington is collecting all the Blacklisters. They have all been employed by the Cabal somewhere down the line in history to manipulate world events to their favor. Thus, Reddington needs the Blacklisters to definitively prove the Focrum is real., They are like pieces to a puzzle and when put together their truth speaks volumes as to the existence of the Cabal. And thus, they can truly unravel the Focrum files. Reddington is not Elizabeth's true Father, but he has taken her under his wings because of his past relationship to Elizabeth's mother. Being a Russian Spy or double agent, Elizabeth's mother uncovered the Truth about the Cabal. She created the Focrum to help prove the Cabal's existence. Reddington came to her house the night of the Fire to pick up the Focrum. Nentheless, she was Killed that night by Elizabeth's father(worked for the Cabal, Double agent) from a fatal gunshot. Reddington came to their house that night to get the Focrum from Elizabeth's mother only to find that the mother had been shot and killed. He kills Elizabeth's father and sets fire to the house to burn all evidence. Reddington take Elizabeth Keen under his wings promising to protect her from the Cabal. He hires Tom Keen to marry and protect her, but his alligence is bought out by Berlin. Elizabeth's Father who died in the hospital was Reddington's friend and not her true father. Reddinton had only left Keen with him to keep her safe from his life against the Cabal. And thus, The blackisters are a key in Reddinton's fight against the Cabal, and he needs to gather and keep them safe in order to unravel the truth about the Cabal. And where Safer than in custody of the FBI. yep

Hi Zenmaster8 - very interesting but I have another theory... do you want to hear it?

if red is not liz's father why is he burnt
it makes sense if liz' shot her father and he was burnt in the fire but didn't die
and the memory doc told the people may have been there in different roles I don't expect any answers on the subject just wanted to vent

I don't want to give too much away because I think I have figured out quite a bit (sorry sounds really arrogant!) What I am trying to say is if I am right then don't want to ruin it for anyone (I'm probably wrong anyway!) So what I will say is:

Lizzy shot her MOTHER not her FATHER - people in different roles. Her mother (Katarina Rostova) and father (Raymond Reddington) are arguing about the fulcrum - Red has hidden Lizzy in the closet, he doesn't know Lizzy has the fulcrum sewn into her cuddly toy bunny, because her mother put it there. Katarina wants the fulcrum, it is Katarina who shouts out "WHERE IS SHE" (we hear Lizzy shout this in a deep voice whilst in a hypnotic state when that lady is trying to extract her memory - great move by the writers because we assume it is a man shouting it). The argument gets heated because Red is saying if you give it to them they will kill her (referring to Lizzy), Red knows this because his and Katarina's other daughter has already been murdered as a result of it. They continue arguing and Katarina starts hitting Red - Lizzy shoots her mother. Red gets Lizzy out of fire and takes her to Sam. I don't know if you have read what I have said about the incidents of the fire, the disappearance in 1990 of Red, and the incident with all the blood - if not its at the top of this page. Anyhow let me know what you think! Thanks for talking.

plausible but iffy on some things
the scar from the fire was the same shape as the symbol on tom's go box
I think there is more to fire that they still have to reveal

red's ex wife knew exactly who liz was so there is a story there
red has to be the father coz when he was going to die he said Liz's name not his other daughter, another story there

and this is a shot in the dark but I the chairwoman is Liz's mother I mean she is mcgarrets mother why not liz

Does anyone know why you have to pay to watch the first 12 episodes of season 2? I can't find them free anywhere!

Yeah, that annoys me too. I especially don't understand it for shows that are on their first season and thus trying to get new viewers.

There are streaming sites if you type it in to your search engine.

Who has changed how the show is filmed? It is so dark you cannot tell any of the surroundings. Too many close-ups and not enough light the rest of the time to tell what's going on in the show.I

How is it not TOTALLY nuts for Liz to be spilling all the details of the operations and the many, many disastrous operations to a Judge AND his STENO who have NOT been read in to ANY security level???? Is this the shark jumping episode?

Clicked send too soon.

Personally, think Liz IS Red's daughter, but with Berlin's daughter not Carla/Naomi. Mention is made that Berlin's daughter fell in love with a dissident (Red as an undercover operative in pre perestroika USSR?)

This explains why he takes that woman's photo in the Stewmaker and why Liz always mentions a father and never a mother.

Best would be for Liz to make one last bad decision and Red to take a shine to Samar or Aram and keep the project going all remembering Liz fondly.....

I started watching this midway through season 1.Season 2 has me really struggling with it's credibility.Essentially the Liz character is just not believable.
I think a much older woman with experience fits the role better. Her actions betray her inexperience(federal agent?).Also the red character whilst intriguing in the first season. His shadowy/ruthless nature always one step ahead.I ask myself why does he need a bodyguard.I think whilst trying to be oh so politically correct the show has lost it's way.A great shame.

Just started watching season 1. Another problem with Lizzie is she is supposed to be a profiler, but she behaves like a regular cop and not a profiler.

I do love this show, but am consistently irritated by Liz's daddy issue.
So given her suspicions about Red, a DNA test seems a blazzingly obvious move for both Liz and her superiors who also have questions. Keeping the daddy question going stops being an interesting part of the story just becomes a blatant plot device. Just my take.

After listening to Red's speech to Ressler (Garrick Episode), I can't help but feel that he (Red) maybe dying. Anyone else get that feeling?

Never thought of that, re: Red being terminally ill. I have thought about Liz's mother not actually being dead.

James Spader is always excellent. Megan Boone is hoorible. She should be flipping hamburgers somewhere.

James Spader is ALWAYS highly watchable. His deadly laser-focus as Red is simply superb. Unfortunately, Megan's acting chops are…. not so great. She handles the physical action of the roll well but….she is NOT nuanced at all in her line delivery. Hopefully she'll learn/improve by osmosis !
