The Blackpool Show, a BBC production, is a comedy drama musical combination that was originally broadcast in England and later in the United States under the name Viva Blackpool. The plot revolves around the murder of a man that occurred at the Blackpool Arcade and the harrowing yet comical investigation that ensues. Ripley Holden (David Morrissey) the brash owner of Blackpool Arcade, quickly becomes a suspect in the murder. Ripley Holden is an ambitious firm business person who has many enemies in town. Detective Peter Carlisle (David Tennant) is assigned to investigate the murder and targets Ripley Holden from the beginning. As Detective Carlisle manipulates his way to develop a case against Holden, he begins to fall in love with Holden's wife, Natalie Holden (Sarah Parish). Natalie has long been ignored by her husband Ripley and the sparks begin to fly with Carlisle's sudden interest. The fallout that follows is what makes The Blackpool Show a hit.
