  • Interesting to see how the pilot and final series differed, there's enough here to make comparisons. I think the producers made the right decision to discard some elements hinted at in this episode.

Bob and Emily long for a child after attending a party thrown by residents of the first floor.

This is an interesting show to watch as it is mostly composed of footage of the unaired pilot and it shows differences from the final series formula. The bedroom set is different, the front door lacks a deadbolt, and the large open room adjacent to the kitchen is laid out differently.

What's even more odd is Emily's character, longer and shaggier hair, and she's less reserved. Her scenes in bed with Bob in the beginning are some of the more risque of the entire series. It's also quite odd to see the two of them so emotional and eager to have a child, the emphasis on their professions being more a part of the post-pilot storybook for this show. The scenes at the doctors' offices are more or less filler in this installment, spliced in later but not driving any action.

Look for Louise Lasser as the agent from the adoption agency here. I have to say that overall, the episode is fun to view, but I'm not sure that linking Bob to the apartment/condo (he's President of the Board here) and having Bob and Emily more eager for a traditional family life would have been as funny for a long-term series.
