After spending seven months behind bars waiting for a trial on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, Carlos Estrada is visited by Walter Nicholls and Brian Darrell who are willing to represent him because they know his mother.
The only person who can prove Carlos' innocence is a young girl Teresa Cuervo, who was working in the U.S. illegally.
Without being able to locate Teresa, Nicholls and Darrell advise Carlos to accept a plea bargain, something that is a common thing due to the courts being overloaded.
As Carlos begins to admit to a crime he never committed, he has a change of heart when he can't stand the outrage of admitting to something he didn't do.
Now his only options are twenty years in jail or finding Teresa.
