  • If Davy Jones were still alive Mike Nesmith would not reunite with The Monkees

In the way history goes as Monkee fans like me know If Davy Jones were still alive today Mike Nesmith

would probably decline all The Monkees tours due to he was the only one with a career in music as he wrote the song for Linda Rostdant (Different Drum) where on the other hand Davy and Micky were actors

and Peter did'nt write as much as the 1986,when The Monkees reunited Nesmith attended only

once for The Monkees:Then and Now album where him and Davy Jones did'nt participate in the new tracks that Davy did'nt play on in the '86 Tour that Nesmith did'nt 1996,the only tour Nesmith played with The Monkees is for the album Just Us,both the '86 and '96 tour he said was boring due he was the only one with an actual most Recent Tours with Jones,Tork, and Dolenz in 2010 and 2011 were without Nesmith and in 2012 only Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz were at the Davy Jones Memorial Nesmith Declined.

  • Marcia tries to get Davy Jones to sing as her dance.

Proberly one of the greater episodes of the series,it concerns Marcia trying hard to get Davy Jones (of The Monkees),to sing at her school dance.

Many things happen as she promises her friends, that she'll get him(presedent of the local Davy Jones Fan Clib).

Anyway, as the shows moves along as the normal Brady pace,Davy is a perfect guest star.

One of the better Marcia episodes. Well written.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In the final scene, Jan, Peter, Cindy, and Bobby sing the Davy Jones song "Girl" in the Brady living room and they are very loud and off-key. They obviously improve their talents considerably by the episodes "Dough Re Mi" (also Season 3) and "Amateur Nite" (Season 4).

    • On "Pop-Up Brady" they counted at least 37 times that they said Davy Jones.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • marcia: this is my mom, and this is my dad, well you know witch is witch!
davy: is it alright if i sit down?
marcia: oh yea sit any were, yea any were.(blocking here head and laughing)
davy: well i'm sorry for all the mess that your in, i should have never promimes anything in that letter i wrote to you.

    • Marcia: My knees didn't get anywhere near Davy Jones!

    • Mike: (to Marcia) Honey, you should never really promise anything unless you're sure you can deliver.

  • NOTES (7)

    • Davy Jones also wore the same suit in the 1995 movie, The Brady Bunch Movie. He also sang the song Girl in the 1995 movie The Brady Bunch Movie.

    • This episode is parodied in the theatrical film The Brady Bunch Movie.

    • Nitpick: Since when do they have proms in Junior High, which is where Marcia is at the time of this episode.

Response: My 9th Grade Prom was the highlight of my Junior High experience. My date dumped me last minute, I went to dinner with my sister who dropped me off in her '70 Chevy Malibu GS, and as the last dance began to play, my former date & I turned to find ourselves looking for each other. Magic.
Marcia and Sherwood Schwartz were right on.

    • This episode ranked #37 on TV Guide's 1997 list of the "100 Greatest TV Episodes of All Time."

    • When the idea to try to get Davy Jones for the prom comes up, one of the girls jokingly says that they should get the Beatles, the Carpenters and the Fifth Dimension as well. However, the Beatles had broken up the previous year.

Response: Precisely, which is why getting them is all the more impossible and would have been a bigger feat than getting Davy. The show and it's writers were much smarter and the show a whole lot more witty and wry than you think.

    • This episode was parodied in The Brady Bunch Movie where Davy Jones also appeared briefly.

    • The song Davy Jones recorded in this episode, "Girl" was used in the 1971 Paramount Film, Star Spangled Girl which starred Sandy Duncan.
