Feeling overshadowed by other siblings? Well Jan Brady feels the same way with marcia. Jan enteres in a essay contest and when she is looking over the scoring sheet she notices that the score is incorrect due to a teachers mistake or typo error, jan had to find the guts to tell the truth..it is hard to do that alot of the times, if your feeling overshadowed by other siblings this episode is for you..the episode is just like alot of lives today with siblings feeling the pressure to act like older siblings , it was a fantastic episode.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • How could Jan say that she never won anything when we learn that Bobby was the only one without an award in the season 2 episode ,"The Winner?"

    • Notice the scene where Jan is sitting next to her mother, and she raises her fists and says, "I'm tired of being in Marcia's shadow all the time!" Jan's red dress is so short that when she lifts her fists, you can see her underwear.

    • All three of the girls had a triad line: Jan, with her renowned, "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"; Marcia discovered that her missing awards were "Gone, gone, gone!"; and in the Coda, Cindy imitates Jan's lament with "Jan, Jan, Jan!"

    • Eve Plumb (Jan) flubbed her lines during the "Marcia-Marica-Marcia" speech ("...how 'm' GREAT Marcia is...") and she does it again when she tells her parents that the second-highest score for the essay contest belonged to "Noras Coombes" (it's supposed to be Nora). Both errors were left in the show!

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Alice: Popcorn, peanuts, onion soup! We want a touchdown, boop-boop-dee-boop!

    • Cindy: I got one of your old teachers.
Jan: What's so bad about that?
Cindy: She heard about what you did, and now all I hear is what a wonderful sister I have. Jan, Jan, Jan!
Marcia: You know, Cindy, everyone has a different talent.
Jan: That's right. Just figure out what you do best, and do your best with it.
      Cindy: That won't be easy.
      Jan: Why not?
Cindy: I'm good at so many different things!

    • Alice: You boys would make lovely pom pom girls.
Peter: I'm not being any pom pom girl!
Bobby: I'm not even gonna be a pom pom boy!

    • Jan: Well, all I hear all day long at school, is how great Marcia is at this and how wonderful Marcia did that. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

    • Mrs. Watson: Your sister Marcia was an excellent student
Jan: I know, you've told me.

    • Katie: Oh, do you have one of THOSE sisters, too?
Jan: Boy, do I ever!..but I'll show her!

    • Carol: (to Jan) Sometimes when we lose, we win.

    • Carol: (to Jan) Find out what you do best and then do your best with it.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Jan's "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" dilemma in this episode was poked fun at in the 1995 Brady Bunch Movie, and to make it even more humorous, the Jan character in the film was portrayed as an undiagnosed schizophrenic, with inner voices about her "perfect" older sister.

    • Contrary to popular belief, this is the only episode where Jan says, "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"
