for the nostalgic, large family, pressures of high school, sassy housekeeper, 60s
05:50 - I'm amazed there's no laugh track when the neighbor says snootily "an adopted child". The laugh track over "sometimes dreadful things"... we're supposed to relate with this woman and laugh at that?
09:54 - abrupt scene cut, is this episode a syndicated cut? Not that I mind, the episode - while heartwarming and terrific in premise, and rather well-acted - is not particularly engaging, which is what networks want from their audiences. I can see why this didn't become a full series.
And remember, when even light laugh tracks are used for girls playing with a jump rope... ugh.
Never mind the aforementioned "minority children are especially destructive" (17:35 ) - that line is just outrageously BAD... was she being written as a female version of Archie Bunker? And who would laugh WITH her on that hideous line? (maybe the editors wanted to through in a laugh track suggesting she was being laughed at, but it definitely didn't come across THAT way...)
