Up until now, I've loved every single episode of this show, but this is the first for which I thought, Meh!
The writers should really consider preparing an overreaching story arc to cover more than just one episode. A story like this one (no spoilers here) should be too complex to be unravelled by a handful of cops in such a short span of time. It reminds me of the bad-old-days of 1970s cop shows where any crime is solved in an hour. Not every criminal gets caught every time, you know. Not every dirty cop gets outed and not every ending has to be a happy one with a little bow on top.
During the season 1 to season 2 break, I wish the writers would watch a season of two of Homicide: Life on the Streets to get an idea of just how realistic a cop show can be. They started off like that, bu I'm afraid they may start sliding down that slippery slope that leads to Kojak or Hawaii 5-0 (shudder).
