The Bridge "Calaca" Review: Oh, So This Is a Tex-Mex The Wire (and That's Okay)

Uh-oh, I just compared FX's new drama to The Wire. Lord help me.

  • Episode Summary

    EDIT

Marco and Sonya's investigation leads them to Daniel Frye, a reporter whom the killer has apparently selected, first as an unwilling accomplice and then as his messenger and liaison. Learning about the shocking secret concealed on her property introduces Charlotte to some of her late husband's shady partners and dealings.

    • Pretty good.

I'm quite intrigued and enjoying the show so far. It is showing this story from multiple different perspectives, which sure is interesting. There are lots of different characters playing a role in events and we get good development of them.

But the case did move rather slowly. We in all honesty did not find out very much at all during this episode. The ending was interesting but the case didn't take major steps forward.

All up though, things are really interesting and it is shaping up for interesting future episodes if they can build on it.moreless

It was not as strong as the pilot, but the show is still interesting. If they just examined the case and had a murder mystery to solve this show would probably be a little bit better. They are trying too hard to have all of these edgy, pay cable drama twists though and it is too slow-moving a program to do that. You're not on HBO, you're on FX. Nothing wrong with that.

      It's interesting, but they're trying too hard.moreless

I really wanted to know what was behind the door when Charlotte opened the door last week, so Carl before his death was bringing in illegals across the border through a tunnel. So Monty (I Think Thats What He Said His Name Was) was in on the scheme as well, although Monty is working for someone else and he doesn't know that just before Carl's death he wanted to divorce Charlotte. So Sonya played the voice recording to journalist Daniel Frye and the next day it was front page news, so Sonya decides to go to Juarez which Marco Ruiz is sort off against it. Meanwhile i think Eva Guerra is dead by the hands of Steven and possibly more to follow and its too early tell at this stage, but if he is the one leaving his trademark beads at every crime scene (Maybe). I keep forgetting that Sonya Cross has Asperger's disease thats why she might come off sounding cold. I do however love the character of Marco Ruiz, now that his wife is having another child after he had his Vasectomy. Fantastic 2nd Episode. Thumbs Up.moreless

      • Lt. Wade : I'm sorry, am I interrupting your snack time?
Det. Cooper: (yogurt cup in one hand, spoon in the other) I'm just topping off my good bacteria, boss. You've got good and bad bacteria in your stomach and they're at war.
Lt. Wade : (takes yogurt and hurls it into wastebasket) Yeah? Well now they're in the trash.
