I've been watching this show from the Pilot, and I have to say that I am a big fan of the show. I liked how the Secretary of Prisons reappeared. I hope he plays a bigger role later on. Scales got a lot of character development in this episode. He has not suffered villian decay (Google TVTropes for the definition) at all. I liked the Evil British guy versus the Evil British guy scenario. In fact, one thing everyone seems to miss about this show is that it takes concepts and reverses them. TVTropes.org has an entry on The Cape.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Scales is said to have offed his driver for "making a right on red", meaning he was very temperamental. This is probably a writer oversight, as making a right on red is only prohibited in NYC, whereas Palm City is a pseudonym for Los Angeles. In his native England, a right turn on red is impossible, as they drive on the left.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Scales: You interrupted lasagna night, and I like lasagna

    • Rollo: Hey, Toto, how's that knee?
Scales: You again. I'm gonna play billiards with your head!
Rollo: Bring it on, gator butt!

    • Mick Reese: Man, I love Brazil nuts. You don't hear much about 'em, but they reflect well on Brazil.

    • Orwell: Are you coming after my camera placement? Because, seriously, you do not want to come after my camera placement.

    • Vince: I--I need backup.
Max: Backup? Oh, so you're Gladys Knight and we're the Pips?
Ruvi: (indicating Rollo) He's a pip.
Rollo: Do you want me to physically hurt you?
Ruvi: Why do you go to this place of violence so quickly? Cannot there be a little bit of friendly teasing? (Rollo hits him)
Max: Rollo! An ounce of restraint.
      Rollo: I was just teasing.

    • Marty: Seeing you in your white hat and six-guns takes the edge off. Helps folks see you as a person. A person with a sense of humor.
Fleming: I don't have a sense of humor.
Marty: No law against keeping that a secret.
Fleming: Who is this competent sounding person, and what has he done with my head of security?

    • The Cape: You're--you're dressed as...
Portman: It's a costume party. Heroes and villains. You were still fresh in my mind.
The Cape: I like the utility belt, man.
      Portman: Oh, Velcro.
The Cape: Nice. It's upside down.
Portman: I know. Can we just keep this between us? This is a little embarrassing.
The Cape: Yeah, sure. I just never had a fan before.
Portman: Well, have a good life.

    • Portman: (pointing a gun) I am Secretary of Prisons and I am--I am off the reservation! So drop your gun before I blow your gizzards off.
Scales: I'm almost too amazed to shoot him... almost.

    • Fleming: You got staying power, Cape. Like a weed... or a cockroach.

    • Max: You know, after our last meeting, I had bullets in three different muscles in my chest. I'm allergic to anesthesia. And the only thing I had to comfort me while the doc took the bullets out was a a washcloth soaked in cognac and thoughts of what I would take from you the next time I had the chance.

    • Fleming: That was good. You're learning how to play.
The Cape: You think this is a game?
Fleming: Do you think it isn't?
The Cape: This is not a game. I'm gonna end you. You're not as smart as you think you are.
Fleming: God, I wish you were right.

    • Vince: What I believe in and what you believe in... sooner or later, it's gonna put us at opposite sides of a loaded gun.
Max: Well, let's enjoy the time before that day comes.

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Orwell: The Secretary of Prisons wants to be your Tonto.

This references the sidekick of the Lone Ranger, hero of radio, screen, and television. Tonto is from the Potawtomi Nation and in most origin stories, nurses a badly injured Texas Ranger, Reid, back to health. Together they travel the Old West as the Lone Ranger and Tonto.
