      • The "Ham Actors" sketch about Funt & Mundane's television debut being ruined by a technicians' strike was a case of art imitating life, as during the making of this episode there was a major strike against CBS by Local 1212 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). The strike commenced on November 3, 1972, and ended within a few days of the airing of this show; it lasted even longer than a previous IBEW strike against CBS which had lasted from April 7, 1958 to April 19, 1958. The 1972 strike was centered on IBEW demands for control and jurisdiction over two new pieces of video technology: the Vidifont, an early computer-based character generating (CG) system whose main font (a digitized version of graphic designer Rudi Bass' CBS News 36) was omnipresent at many local TV stations, and even the three networks and PBS, from the early 1970's well into the early '80's; and the CMX 600, an electronic video editing system developed by CBS Laboratories in conjunction with Memorex. The strike also affected several episodes of The New Price Is Right which aired within this period; plus incidences of hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage, and several live remotes (such as football games) being cancelled.
