Show Summary

The Chuck McCann Show is a children's variety program that ran from 1960 through 1975 on New York City's WPIX and WNEW stations on weekday mornings. The program featured skits and musical numbers from the veteran of the kids' shows "Captain Kangaroo" and "Gumby," along with Paul Ashley and his Puppets. McCann appeared alongside regular cast members Jack Riely, Pat McCormack and Jim MacGeorge. The show also included parodies of pop culture entertainments, such as "The Godfather."

Chuck would often use hilarious characters and props in his daily show. We loved the slapstick fun he and Sandy Becker delivered. Chuck would often play Oliver Hardy, whom was always another welcome TV friend of ours in those days. I have heard that Sandy's shows were erased or otherwise destroyed except for a blooper reel, and only one of Paul Winchel's was saved. I hope the same fate didn't fall to Chuck.moreless
