    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

    • QUOTES (6)

      • Darnell: You got a plan?
        William: Sort of.
Arnie: "Sort of." You know what? That ambiguity doesn't exactly put us at ease.

      • Akani: Hey! I've been calling you, six times.
Swenton: I'm sorry, I was screening my calls. Look, if I would have known it was a booty call, I would have picked up the phone.
Akani: Arnie, I'm serious. Are you using?
        Swenton: No.
Akani: Don't play with me, dude.
Swenton: Excuse me? If I wanted to play with you, I'd be on top, all right? Better leverage. (while walking away) And you'd thank me multiple times.

      • Lauren Keenan: William Banks? FBI. Special Agent Lauren Keenan.
William: (looking up) And my day gets worse.
Lauren Keenan: Can we step inside?
William: Nope, 'cause the last time I got into bed with you guys, I got screwed every which way. Not pleasant. So whatever you're selling, I'm not interested.

      • Melissa: (about Ben) Look, he's just pissed at you, the same way you're pissed at your father.
William: So you're saying it is my fault.
Melissa: I'm saying Banks men have their baggage.

      • (A car with a red bow is parked outside the house.)
William: (reading the card) "William, thank you. Gino." (looks up at the sky) Now you're just messing with me!

      • (Talking to God.)
William: "The thing that doesn't kill us makes us stronger." Don't know about that one. 'Cause on the other hand, if it doesn't make us stronger, doesn't it just kill us? Hard enough the people you give me on the outside. Lost souls trying to find their way: people who have never done good, and people who are trying to do good. You know me, I'm a collector of lost souls. So are you trying to make me stronger? Or are you trying to kill me?

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • William: "The thing that doesn't kill us makes us stronger."

This is a slight misquote of Friedrich Nietzsche who wrote, "Out of life's school of war. —What does not destroy me, makes me stronger." It is part of his essay, "Twilight of the Idols: or, How to Philosophize with a Hammer," Maxims and Barbs, Section 8.

      • Arnie: It's a bird! It's a plane! It's… (William walks out) it's not listening.

This is a reference to the comic book, TV and film hero Superman.
