  • Great season finale.

    9.5
After last week's rather strange episode, the finale was right on track with "The Closer" at its best. Mary McDonnell's appearance as Capt. Raydor increased the tension and the initial absence of a murder case was quite a change-up as well. One of Capt. Raydor's female detectives was being physically abused by her husband, and she needed help from Major Crimes to investigate the case. The plot twist(the domestic violence was self-inflicted) was well concealed, but once revealed it was all a matter of getting Raydor's detective and her police officer boyfriend to turn on each other. The barrel switch of the two Glock's was ingenious and would have worked if the boyfriend's gun had not already been investigated in a prior case. Capt. Raydor seemed rather stunned that she had been wrong, but did eventually "go for the throat" of her own detective whom she so lovingly had been protecting. Capt. Raydor apparently does not like to be played.

The ending was the "can't wait until next season" part. Fritz is being considered for a promotion and transfer back to Washington D.C. The big question is if Brenda will give up her job in Major Crimes and follow Fritz to D.C. The final scene was Fritz and Brenda heading to the bedroom in the heat of passion. That is definitely not fodder for a major showdown over job vs. family, which makes the wait until next summer a long one.moreless

An excellent episode of The Closer that was well acted by the whole cast. It was actually a pleasure to see Mary McDonnell back as Captain Raydor. The episode had a few things that were counter productive in Fritz not telling Brenda Leigh what was going on with his job and acting out of sorts and Chief Pope's unusual handling of the overall case and Brenda Leigh for what turned out to be a misunderstanding on his part.

Taking those two parts out it became clear pretty quick that something was not kosher in the whole version of the murder of the husband. If the Chief and Captain ever really get together and agree on things you get the feeling the two of them could really be dangerous!

An enjoyable season finale leaving us looking forward to this next summers continued adventures of Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson and her Major Case squad. Thanks for reading...moreless
