  • Brenda uses text messages on a cell phone to solve a murder.

    8.0
A kid performing community service finds a cell phone with text messages about killing someone and turns it over to the Major Crimes Unit. Brenda looks into the messages and learns that another murder may occur. Fritz's sister Claire, who claims to be a psychic tags along with Brenda to work and starts making predictions, driving everyone nuts. Upon further investigating, they find the victim of the first murder, a movie producer. He had driven his car over a cliff and Brenda had to prove he had some help. They went to his house and found his wife dead from a trauma to the head and carbon monoxide poisoning. The team uses the dead woman's cell phone to trace back and find a suspect. Brenda uses her normal mode of questioning and tricks him into confessing. He killed the husband of the woman he fell in love with and when she ignored him, he killed her.moreless
  • Could have been fun, but the delivery was off.

    6.5
So the idea of having a clairvoyant around that coincidentally gets things right could be fun. But the execution of everything was really off. Amy Sedaris was appropriately annoying, but why was Tao such a spaz? I could understand one of the squad believing in those things, but he was too over the top. Always yelling out weirdly. I feel like they were trying to make this episode a lot like a scary movie or a dream. Brenda was always getting scared by people coming up to her, things lurking around corners etc. But since we don't know this is about a horror movie producer until more than half way through. So that joke is lost. Overall, it could have been fun, but it ended up awkward.moreless

    • Chief Pope: Well, Major Crimes seems to have had some very good hunches on this, but unless you are planning to hold a seance the victims are not going to tell you how they died. So let's find some physical evidence from, you know, our plain of existence and wrap this up, all right? Good night everyone, pleasant dreams.
Claire: Skeptics! Some people just won't believe what they can't see.
      Brenda: Like juries.

    • (After Claire explains that some of her visions were about Brenda's past relationships)
Brenda: Wait a minute. Did Fritz tell you about all that?
Claire: No! Absolutely not! No way! It was Lieutenant Flynn.
      Brenda: What!
Claire: Yeah. We also talked about your candy drawer.

    • Brenda: (staring at a cell phone) Why are the words so tiny? Who are they texting to, mice?

    • Flynn: A river, a train, and a barking dog.
Provenza: Throw in a pick-up truck and we've got a country song.

    • Flynn: Chief.
      Brenda: Yes?
Flynn: I've never had a useful tip from a a psychic, ever.
Brenda: She's not a psychic, she's an intuitionist and my future sister-in-law.

    • Fate Line
The title of this episode is an allusion to one of the lines found on the palm of the hand that is read during a typical palm reading session. This line usually starts in the middle of the palm near the wrist and extends towards the middle finger, however variations do exist. This line is believed to predict the effects of outside influences, such as society and world events, on one's life. An experienced palm reader uses things like the depth of the line, any turns or breaks, and any interactions with other lines on the palm to interpret it's meaning.

    • Fritz: Do you remember when the FBI sent 30 agents in to drain that lake in Virginia looking for anthrax? That was her.

While investigating the 2001 anthrax attacks, the FBI drained and searched a pond in Frederick, Maryland, from June 9-28, 2003. The search began after the FBI found other evidence, including vials wrapped in plastic, in the forest surrounding the pond. Although it was a new theory on how the perpetrator accomplished the attacks, no anthrax was actually found.
