The trend this season is to have no proper opening themes/titles. I blame Lost !

Me too. I love shows like 'House' and 'Cold Case'- I rewatch episodes that I've had taped and I absolutely cannot fast forward through the opening credits because the theme music is so compelling and beautiful it would be a travesty to just forward through it.

I hope so, but this seems to be the new fad for shows. Why is beyond me.

    Lets hope the fad dies.

TNT's "The Closer" website has a song called "Secret" by Howie Day listed as the Original Theme Song, though we've yet to hear it on the show. You can hear it here. It's pretty cool - check it out!

Wow, an opening montage to that would be great. Hopefully the show will add it.

The big joke would be if somehow this was all a big accident, like maybe 'Lost' was underbudgeted or they were too cheap to have proper opening credits and then it somehow becomes the new cool thing. It annoys me so much! Any new series I watch now, I'm so cynical and most of the time, I'm right because we finish the first scene and what do you know, they just flash the names onscreen, no proper credits, no nothing. Is it so hard...?

We're in the same boat then . I don't see what the harm would be in showing us who the main characters are exactly in a nice little montage.

OK, I agree that the song is cool. But with the exception of that nice dark c&w chord progression after the first verse it doesn't seem to fit the attitude of the show very well. I mean, yeah, it's L.A., but she's a warm honeysuckle country gal and the acoustic country music between names flashed up on black screens is ... sorry. I recognize I'm in the minority here, but it really seems to lead us into the show better.

I don't disagree that that song with an opening montage wouldn't be charming. It's just ... a huge part of this show seems to focus heavily upon Brenda Johnson and her attitude and generally I feel that song over a montage wouldn't serve that focus as well.

Not, mind you, that it wouldn't look smokin' hot.

Sorry -- a big part of what I love about this show is, in fact, Kyra, and everything about her.

    She's my hero.

The Lost pilot did go MASSIVELY overbudget (so much so that the Entertainment President of ABC was actually fired for Green-Lighting the expensive project). I honestly doubt they had enough money left in the budget to make a proper opening sequence.

I really love opening quences. Some shows have actually started removing their openers, like Desperate Housewives, which has one the most interesting on TV (maybe I'm just a sucker for Art Montages). Battlestar Galactica has a great idea, where their opening is a montage of standard images, and then they end it with about 30 seconds of images from the show you're about to watch. Its sort of like a teaser...

This song has been used on the website since last summer before the show went to air. I feel it was more of simply a cross-promotion between Sony Entertainment and TNT (Howie Day was just starting to gain a lot of popularity at the time, and the song on the website made the series seem a bit Young and Edgy, which seem to be what all TV Execs are looking for.

Strangely though, despite my undying devotion for Howie Day, I have to agree with the above poster that this song simply wouldn't work with the series. The folksy Acoustic Country sounds much better at the beginning of this series than this song would. It would be massively cool, and a good idea if they are trying to branch off into a younger audience, but I just don't think it would work...

I love the "theme" it's unique how the cast's names just appear in the middle of her examining a body. It's AWESOME!
