I got to this series late (starting to watch it in its third season) but I have become a huge fan and this kind of episode is the reason why.

Somehow the writers know how to mix just the right amount of humor and personal stuff in with all the criminal pursuit - and they do an excellent job of casting both the one-time guest stars and the others (like Brenda Leigh's parents) who appear from time to time.

I do not know how they come up with these really unusual cases but it is remarkable how they have not repeated themselves yet.moreless

Funny, smart, well-acted, well-written. I love "The Closer" for episodes like this one where they manage to bring emotion together with a really unusual case. I especially liked the guest star - aka 'Cancer Girl' - who I never suspected might have been involved with her fiance's murder. (I think that the casting is always really good on this show.) Very cool how they reconstructed the murder scene. Great to see the parents as well. Barry Corbin always cracks me up. All in all, very amusing and entertaining and made me want to tune in again.moreless
  • predictable. a bit of a let down.

This episode seemed like a weak return episode to me. It seemed very anticlimactic after the last episode before it went on hiatus. Maybe I've just watched too many episodes of this. I found that she was saying the same kinds of things to her parents, the same kinds of conflicted glances at sugar, the same trouble balancing work and home time, trouble delegating, and so on as per standard issue. The murderer was predictable. During the investigation, Pope's demand for diplomacy and Brenda's plough ahead and just solve the darned murder again was pretty generic. I found it to be ho hum. I usually really like this show too. Oh well! maybe next time.moreless
  • The medical examiner, Dr. Morales, thinks that a suicide appears most like a homicide and so therefore it is given to Brenda's PHD. Also, a member of Brenda's family gets ill and the fate of bullet-wounded Det. Sanchez is revealed.moreless

Meanwhile Brenda prepals for her upcoming wedding, the medical examiner, Dr. Morales , thinks that an apparent suicide case is actually a homicide. And so, the case is given to Brenda's Priority Homicide Division to investigate. With the visit of Brenda's parents in Los Angeles, she must bring them along with her but when the health of one of them is put in jeopardy, she slows down the case unintentionally. Also, in "Time Bomb", Detective Julio Sanchez was shot in the process of saving Lt. Provenza's life and in this episode, his fate is finally revealed after a five month hiatus of the show.moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Goof: When Beth Gibson is explaining how she started faking her cancer, she is facing Brenda and says she found a lump under her arm and points to her left arm (the arm without the purse). However when she turns, she is pointing to her right arm (the arm with the purse).

    • Although Corey Reynolds has an opening credit, Sgt. Gabriel does not appear in this episode.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Brenda: If I didn't believe this was a murder why would I be pursuing this?
Pope: I don't know? Because it's what you do. When you're a hammer everything in the world looks like a nail.

    • Brenda: Pastor Hicks flips funds around in ways that would impress a Swiss banker.

    • Brenda: I'm gonna have my parents meet me at the church, and then I'm delegating the rest of the day to y'all.
      Flynn: Ha!

    • Clay Johnson: Well if that girl (Brenda) had her way she'd ask a minister to stop by a crime scene and then serve Ho-Hos out of her purse.
