When a priest in found murdered, the investigation leads to an apartment leased under his name and containing many pictures of girls from the elementary school where he teaches. Brenda's heavy-handed tactics land her in hot water with not only the Church, but with Chief Pope whose orders she directly disobeys.
Meanwhile, Brenda's parents have arrived and the treatments Clay is receiving from Dr. Parr are having a positive impact on his health.

After the dramatic conclusion of the episode, the closing credits are shown without the usual background music.
Pope: The real issue is I'm gonna be moving upstairs to run this whole department in my own right, and I'm not gonna be around to watch over you anymore. You know?
Brenda: Afraid I'll burn the place down?
Pope: (smiles) No. No. I'm, I'm afraid you'll burn yourself up. You know?
Provenza: With all due respect, Chief, ah, we need to find out if this rug is from the priest's room or...
Taylor: No, no, not yet.
Provenza: What do you mean, 'No, no, not yet.'
Pope: The Jesuits who run this school have requested that we wait for an archivist from their order to collect the dead priest's journals and documents before we search the room.
Provenza: Sounds like Father Adam here may have been up to something that the Church doesn't want us to see.
Pope: The diocese has had services at this cathedral for five L.A.P.D. officers in the past year, two of whom were not even Catholic. So, we will treat their dead with the same respect they have shown ours.
Brenda: I'm gonna go... Oh no, Daddy's got an appointment in an hour and a half and I...
Fritz: I already took the afternoon off. Your dad likes my driving better anyway.
Brenda: He did not say that! Did he?
Fritz: Actually, he said you steer the car like a lost getaway driver.
Brenda: Oh, that sounds just like him.
(Brenda takes a work related call after dinner and heads out)
Willie Rae: Brenda, you have to go back to work at this hour?
Brenda: Momma, I'm so sorry, but, but I've got a deadline.
Willie Rae: I thought since Clay was feeling better, you and I could have a little talk.
Brenda: And we will, we will.
Willie Rae: Well, there's something I really ought to tell you. It'll only take a minute.
Brenda: Well, can it wait till tomorrow morning? We can have breakfast and talk about whatever you'd like.
Willie Rae: All right, tomorrow. Only, honey, you can't keep working like this your whole life, it'll catch up with you.
Brenda: I expect it will, but not tonight. (kisses her mother on the cheek)
Willie Rae: Drive carefully.
