Brenda and the team race to find the person who is responsible for executing two south of the border detectives and dumping their bodies in the back of a pickup truck. The main suspect has turned out to be a priest of a church located in a poor neighborhood. After pope threatens to shut down Priority Homicide, the team urges Brenda to stay away from the church and try to do this one by the books, so as not to anger chief Pope any further. When a south of the border internal affairs agent shows up to offer a helping hand to Brenda and the team, they find out that he was actually responsible for the deaths of the detectives. In a race to find and protect the identity of a man that has gone up against a major drug cartel, they find out their is a fifty thousand dollar bounty on his head in jail for the first person to kill him. They send the internal affairs man to jail under the name of the man they are trying to save...the ends justify the means in that one huh? Manuel, the man they are trying to save is now safe but must relocate with a new identity.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Ramos: (after Pope tries to interrupt him several times) Still talking... This scene, and particularly this line, is a parallel to a similar scene in the season opener Controlled Burn in which Pope uses the same line, in the same manner, on Ramos after he nearly jeopardizes a major case.

    • This is not the first time Brenda and the PHD have used "unconventional methods" to mete out justice to a guilty suspect. In the Season One episode "The Big Picture," Nick Koslov (the son of a Russian mafia leader) figures he's covered when he gets an FBI-backed alibi when he murders several prostitutes in his 'employ'. Brenda manages to leverage Nick's betrayal against his family (he became an FBI informant to obtain the agency's cooperation), which has him killed literally hours after his release.

Also in Season One, Austin Phillips and his family decide to use the legalities of the Mexican prison system to try and avoid the death penalty for Austin's role in the rape and murder of a young Mexican national. Brenda provides the federales with the victim's birth certificate, and informs Austin that he will be tried, under Mexican law, for the murder of his victim even though it occurred in the United States--a legal loophole Austin and his parents forgot to read about.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Brenda: Bless me father for I have sinned. Fr. Donahue: How long has it been since your last confession? Brenda: Well I almost got one last night.

    • (Dr. Morales accidentally splashes Gabriel with a wet sponge.)
Gabriel: Oh my God! What is on that sponge?
Dr. Morales: Just water. Oh you know what, um, I'm not sure...You'll be fine, probably.

    • Taylor: Listen, I know how things sounded this morning. But trust me. I'm working all this out.
      Brenda: Yeah, I can tell.

    • Flynn: That's one way to get away with murder. Investigate it yourself.

    • Pope: You wanna know what else was my idea? You. You were my idea. Priority homicide was my idea...Priority homicide has run it's course. It's over. It's done. I'm shutting it down.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Brenda: Is it politically incorrect to suggest that this is a Mexican standoff?

A Mexican standoff is a situation in which all parties involved feel unable to strike first without putting themselves at significant risk.

    • Provenza: Let's fight one Pope at a time.

This is another comparison between Assistant Chief Will Pope, to whom Brenda and the rest of PHD answer to most often, and The Pope, the head of the Catholic church. This reference is a play on words with Pope's last name.
