      • Stephen Colbert: It is the most exciting marriage of politics and reality shows since Dick Cheney had president Bush put the entire country on Big Brother.

Big Brother is a reality show which began in 2000 in the US were contestants live together in a house where they are monitored by cameras. They have to compete against each other in various tasks and for audience support. Every week one contestant is voted off.
The show itself is a reference to the totalitarian world portrayed in George Orwell's book 1984 where the government monitored everything and everybody. It gave birth to the famous quote "Big brother is watching you" where "big brother" stands for the government.
