    • Stephen: Despite the apparent downsides, this bill is the best thing for the Republicans and the reason is tonight's Word: Napoleon Blown Apart. Now some viewers may be ignorant of European history, (a.k.a. Americans) well, back in 1815 Napoleon was defeated at the Belgian town of Waterloo and was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena. That's how they punish dictators in Europe. They send them to an island with a limited wine list. The point is this tyrant was destroyed. (Though his pastry lives on!) And back in July, my Senator, South Carolina's Jim "Crème" DeMint made this bold prediction.

[Audio: Jim DeMint: If we're able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo.]

Stephen: Yes! Except, no. You see, Obama passed the bill which some say makes healthcare the Republican Waterloo. (The Party of "Non!") Like former Bush speechwriter David Frum who wrote on his blog: "Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960's…we followed the most radical voices in the party and the movement, and they led us to abject and irreversible defeat." But Frum, who will be my guest this Thursday, is jumping to conclusions about this. (Because this has concluded) Jim DeMint knows this crushing defeat could be a glorious victory.

[Video: Bob Schieffer: You said that this was going to be Barack Obama's Waterloo and if Republicans could defeat him on this it would break him. Well, he won Waterloo it looks like, so I guess my question to you is: What do you do next?
Jim DeMint. We'll find out in November who or lost this battle.]

Stephen: That's right. The Republicans may have lost the healthcare fight but that just sets them up for the real win in November now that their base is fired up. (And fully loaded) The danger is seven months from now voters might forget how angry they are that their guaranteed health coverage was achieved through parliamentary tricks. (Silly Dems! Tricks are for tax cuts!) So I say to guarantee a win in November the GOP needs to keep losing now. I mean lose on financial regulation, immigration, campaign finance reform, don't ask don't tell, everything. Let Obama roll you like a wino. (Mad Dog 2010) Then if you do that, Republicans will have a clear path to triumph in November, though of course now that we have learned from Jim DeMint that for Republicans defeat is actually victory, they really should lose in November too. And I say go for it guys, it will fire up the base for a big win in 2012. (The Mayans warned us!) And Senator DeMint, don't forget that you're up for reelection this year too. Just imaging the victory for all Americans if you "lost." (Napoleon blown apart)

      And that's the Word.
